Location Details
This position is based at St Michaels Hospital in Bristol, South West England. The hospital provides regional tertiary neonatal intensive care for medical patients and supra-regional services for infants with surgical, neurosurgical, and cardiac problems.
Salary and Benefits
The salary for this position is £57,528 to £64,750 per annum (pro rata for part-time positions), paid according to the Agenda for Change pay scheme at Band 8a. This is a competitive salary reflective of the seniority and responsibilities of the ANNP role. Working Pattern
This position is available on both full-time and part-time basis, providing flexibility for candidates who may require a reduced working schedule. The ANNP role encompasses all four pillars of advanced practice with 80% clinical and 20% non-clinical responsibilities for leadership and management, research and audit, and education, contributing to service improvement and professional development.
Contract Type
This is a permanent contract, offering job security and stability. The successful candidate will become part of UHBW’s established neonatal team, comprised of medical, nursing, and allied healthcare professionals who work closely as a multidisciplinary team.
Essential Qualifications
To be considered for this position, applicants must have:
- MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice
- Neonatal Critical Care Course or equivalent (QiS)
- First Level Registered Nurse BSc RGN/RSCN/RN or Child Branch
- Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)
- Current registration with NMC as a Non-Medical Prescriber
Desirable Qualifications
While not essential, the following qualifications would be advantageous:
- ARNI provider
- NLS instructor
- BSc Neonatal Studies or equivalent
- Mentoring and Assessing or Teaching qualification
Essential Experience
Candidates must have recent significant experience as an ANNP, demonstrating clinical expertise in neonatal care. Applicants should be familiar with current local and national issues in neonatal care, possess leadership skills and knowledge, and provide evidence of teaching experience. The ability to support others, conscientiousness, commitment, and reliability are also essential.
Person Specification
The successful candidate will need to demonstrate a range of skills and abilities, including basic computer skills, self-motivation, problem-solving ability, initiative, and the capacity to lead teams and manage change. They should be able to work effectively under pressure, possess good interpersonal communication and time management skills, and be able to plan, organize, and prioritize their own work and that of others. Assertiveness, proactivity, and a high level of skill and competency in neonatal care are essential.
Main Duties
The ANNP will work across the Tier 1 rota to provide high-level clinical care within the Neonatal unit, Central delivery suite, Transitional Care, and postnatal wards. The postholder will take a lead role in the immediate, critical, and ongoing management of sick infants and their families, with the freedom to interpret and act within broad policies and protocols. This includes taking a lead role in the safe transportation of sick infants within the Trust. The post holder will be an Independent Prescriber and will take a proactive role in education, leadership activities, audit and research projects, and the updating of unit protocols and guidelines.
