About the Role
We are looking for a compassionate and enthusiastic Acute Illness Nurse to join our friendly and supportive clinical team at Tuxford Medical Centre. This position plays a critical role in the management and treatment of patients presenting with minor illnesses and acute conditions within our general practice setting. The successful candidate will be responsible for assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of a wide range of acute illnesses, ensuring timely and effective care for our approximately 6,200 patients.
Key Responsibilities
The Acute Illness Nurse will work independently within a collaborative team environment, supported by GPs, nurse practitioners, and other healthcare professionals to provide high-quality, patient-centered care. You will make professional autonomous decisions when consulting with patients, assess their healthcare needs, and utilize highly-developed nursing knowledge and skills including physical examination, applied pharmacology and evidence-based prescribing.
Core Duties Include:
- Seeing patients independently in 15-minute face-to-face appointments
- Maintaining accurate and timely patient records using clinical IT systems (e.g. EMIS)
- Working collaboratively within the practice nursing team, GPs, and other healthcare professionals
- Providing expert professional advice to patients, carers and colleagues
- Ensuring the maintenance of clinical excellence in all patient interactions

Practice Environment

We foster team working across the practice, from GPs that have an ‘open door’ philosophy for staff queries, to our nurses having dedicated admin and nurse meeting time.
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications:
- Degree or equivalent in Nursing and on NMC register
- Experience of independently dealing with day to day acute illness in primary care, community or in Accident and emergency
Essential Experience:
- Minimum 2 years post-registration experience
- At least 1 year primary or community nursing experience
- Aware of accountability of own role and other roles in a nurse-led service
Desirable Qualifications:
- Ability to identify determinants of health in the local area
- Knowledge of public health issues in the local area
- Awareness of local and national health policy
