Are you a motivated Speech and Language Therapist with a passion for working in voice and dysphagia? City Health Care Partnership CIC is offering an exciting Band 6-7 development role to help develop and lead the community voice service within their Adult Speech and Language Therapy team. This is a fantastic opportunity to grow into an advanced clinical position with mentorship, structured competency development and advanced training.
CHCP CIC is looking for a therapist with excellent communication skills and proven post graduate experience in working with clients with voice and swallowing disorders to join their team. Main Duties of the Job
You will be well supported by senior staff with advanced clinical knowledge in areas of dysphagia and acquired communication difficulties and external clinical voice supervision will be provided to support you whilst developing your band 7 competencies. As an Advanced Speech and Language Therapist (Development Role), you will:
- Provide specialist assessment and intervention to adults with complex voice, communication and swallowing needs.
- Manage a diverse caseload, triage referrals and deliver evidence based therapy using advanced clinical reasoning.
- Support the community videofluoroscopy service
- Work autonomously within professional guidelines, supported by supervisors and the wider MDT.
- Contribute specialist advice to colleagues, patients and external agencies.
- Support and co ordinate day to day operations within your clinical area.
- Participate in service development, quality improvement, clinical governance and audit.
- Provide clinical supervision, training and mentorship to junior staff, assistants and students.
- Engage in professional networking regionally and nationally.
This role includes working across multiple sites, patient homes, and community settings. Our team works across Hull and East Yorkshire providing adult speech and language therapy across a number of community settings including community inpatient units, clinics, specialist multi disciplinary stroke services, a regular community videofluoroscopy clinic, and domiciliary visits.
Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential:
- Degree/ Postgraduate qualification leading to licence to practice
- Current Full RCSLT membership including completion of NQP competencies
- Current HCPC registration
- Post graduate Dysphagia qualification and/or evidence of competence at the specialist/enhanced level on the RCSLT Dysphagia competencies
- Sound postgraduate experience working with a voice caseload and evidence of completing some voice specialist training e.g. Voice Fit to Practice, Introductory courses to voice therapy
Desirable:
- Postgraduate dysphagia qualifications and/or evidence of competence at the highly specialist/Advanced level on the RCSLT dysphagia competencies. This may include completion of courses/competencies related to videofluoroscopy or FEES assessments.
- Significant post graduate training within specialist area of a voice including completion of recognised post graduate training in courses specialist to voice clinical area including courses such as: Accent method, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Brief Solution Focused therapy, laryngeal manipulation, PhoRTE, LSVT
Knowledge
Essential:
- Full understanding of relevant policy, legislation and guidance relevant to clinical and service area
- Full understanding/application of relevant clinical practice/standards/audit within identified clinical area
- Specialist understanding of relevant clinical practice, standards and protocols within identified clinical area.
- Evidence of undertaking audits/survey
- Basic IT skills
Desirable:
- Advanced/expert understanding of relevant clinical practice, standards and protocols within identified clinical area.
- Member of specialist interest group/network, locally or regionally
- Good working knowledge of relevant IT systems to own area of work
Experience
Essential:
- Evidence of sound post-registration professional practice
- Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) relevant to the clinical area at a specialist level of care
- Experience of multi-agency/professional working
- Experience of case load management within specialist service area
- Evidence of promoting/supporting active patient/relative involvement/participation
- Evidence of supporting students on placements and supervision of junior colleagues e.g. assistant or newly qualified staff.
Desirable:
- Demonstrable experience of working in the specific field where the post is held including independent caseload management and ability to prioritise and triage referrals.
- Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) relevant to the clinical area to advanced level e.g. Masters/post-graduate diploma and equivalent knowledge/experiential learning/experience
- Evidence of advanced practice skills and able to demonstrate the impact of this on practice change/development
- Leadership/management experience which has had a positive impact and created change within the service delivery/practice
- Experience in supervising SLT staff including through their NQP competencies and/or post graduate dysphagia training
- Professional networking regionally and nationally
- Be able to effectively Chair meetings
