Job Summary
We are seeking to recruit a substantive Consultant Psychiatrist to join our Older Adult Inpatient team in beautiful Barrow in Furness. The post is full time (10PA) and comes with a Recruitment & Retention Premia of £40k payable on commencement of employment. This is an excellent opportunity for qualified psychiatrists looking to relocate to the UK, as the employer is willing to provide a certificate of sponsorship for eligible candidates.
Location and Environment
The role is based on Ramsay Ward within the Dane Garth Unit in Furness General hospital. FGH is a large district general hospital with around 268 beds, a full range of specialities and an accident and emergency department. Barrow in Furness offers a beautiful setting on the edge of the Lake District, providing an excellent work-life balance for healthcare professionals. The area is known for its natural beauty and outdoor recreational opportunities.
Role Responsibilities
The post holder will work with a multidisciplinary team including nurse consultant, Psychologist, clinical leads, community mental health nurses, occupational therapy HCA and trainee advanced clinical practitioner. This position requires participation in the Consultant On Call rota, for which additional remuneration will be payable (0.5 PA + 5% supplement). The Dane Garth unit has established resident doctor posts including FY1s, FY2s a CT and GPSTs, providing excellent support and collaborative working environment.
Professional Requirements
Applicants should hold full GMC registration and be included on the Specialist register of the GMC or they should be eligible for entry to the Specialist Register within 6 months of the interview date. It is a requirement that applicants are Section 12 Approved at the time of commencing employment and have or are eligible to have Approved Clinician Status. Remuneration will be set out in the terms of the New Consultant Contract according to previous experience.
Package Benefits
This position offers an attractive package including a Recruitment & Retention Premia of £40k payable on commencement of employment. There is a study leave budget of £3000 over 3 years or up to £5000 over 3 years for newly qualified Consultants. A relocation package is available of up to £8000 for eligible candidates. The role includes at least 2.5 SPAs as standard for a full time post, with flexibility to consider enhancements to support other activities that support the wider ambitions of the Trust.

On-Call Responsibilities
The postholder will be expected to participate in the Consultant On Call rota, for which additional remuneration will be payable (0.5 PA + 5% supplement). This on-call responsibility is an integral part of the role and ensures comprehensive coverage for our inpatient services while providing appropriate compensation for additional workload.
