The Mechanical Foreman is responsible for supervising and coordinating mechanical maintenance activities within the pellet plant to ensure reliable operation of all mechanical equipment.
The role involves planning, assigning, and overseeing maintenance tasks to minimize downtime and enhance equipment performance, while ensuring safety and adherence to maintenance standards.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise day-to-day mechanical maintenance activities within the ammonia plant, including inspections, repairs, overhauls, and preventive maintenance.
Allocate work to mechanical technicians and fitters based on skills, priorities, and plant requirements.
Ensure the reliable operation and maintenance of rotating and static equipment, including pumps, compressors, turbines, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, valves, fans, and associated mechanical systems.
Monitor equipment performance and coordinate timely troubleshooting and corrective maintenance to minimize downtime.
Ensure all maintenance activities are carried out in compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies, procedures, and industry standards.
Coordinate with Operations, Electrical, and Instrumentation teams to plan and execute preventive, corrective, and breakdown maintenance activities.
Prepare maintenance reports, maintain accurate records of completed work, and update maintenance documentation.
Assist in spare parts planning, material requisition, and inventory control to ensure equipment availability.
Provide technical guidance, coaching, and on-the-job training to mechanical technicians and junior personnel.
Participate in root cause analysis, reliability improvement initiatives, and continuous improvement programs to enhance equipment performance.
Support plant shutdowns, turnarounds, overhauls, and emergency maintenance activities, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and within schedule.
Qualifications and Skills
Diploma or Trade Certificate in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
8 – 10 years of relevant experience in mechanical maintenance, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or foreman role in a pellet plant or similar heavy process industry.
Solid knowledge of mechanical systems, rotating equipment, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
Familiarity with maintenance planning tools and computerized maintenance systems (e.g., SAP, Maximo).
Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
Ability to interpret mechanical drawings and technical manuals.
