About the Role
NICE – The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence is seeking a Topic Adviser to join our Bladder Cancer guideline update committee. This voluntary position offers an excellent opportunity for healthcare professionals to contribute to the development of evidence-based guidelines while working remotely from anywhere in the world.

Location and Working Arrangements
This is a virtual position with flexible working arrangements. Topic Advisers can work from home or any remote location, making it ideal for international candidates. The committee primarily meets virtually using online software, with occasional in-person meetings that are currently expected to be minimal.
Compensation and Benefits
Topic Advisers receive reimbursement for their services based on their professional status. General Practitioners & Consultants receive £600 per day (more than 4 hours) or £300 per half day (up to and including 4 hours). Agenda for Change rates are £300 per day or £150 per half day. NICE also covers reasonable out-of-pocket expenses, including travel and accommodation when necessary.
Commitment Requirements
Members are expected to commit to a 3-year term, with potential for renewal up to a maximum of 10 years. This includes attending up to 10 committee meetings per year, an annual awayday, and occasional training. Committee members must dedicate time to reading substantial documents and contributing to consultation processes.
Essential Qualifications
Candidates must possess the ability to understand and interpret multiple complex data sets, with demonstrated experience in gathering, analysing, critiquing, and synthesising complex information. This should be evidenced by relevant experience and/or academic qualifications in a healthcare-related field.
Essential Experience Requirements
Applicants must have experience in health or social care as either a practicing healthcare professional or by working in or with healthcare industries. Active registration with the appropriate professional body and a valid license to practice are required. Candidates should also demonstrate an understanding of the social, political, economic, and professional influences on NICE.
