Main Duties of the Job
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing and maintaining a high standard of nursing care for patients, as well as providing nursing assistance to the doctors and other members of the Primary Healthcare Team. The role encompasses a wide range of clinical responsibilities and requires a compassionate, skilled nurse who can work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities
The Practice Nurse will be expected to document consultations according to NMC Guidelines and support patients in long term condition management. This includes carrying out practice checks such as venepuncture, blood pressure monitoring, and diabetic foot checks. The role also involves running Well Person Clinics and Health Promotion Programmes, facilitating change by providing holistic assessment and lifestyle advice on smoking, alcohol intake, and exercise.
Clinical Procedures
The successful candidate will perform various clinical procedures including Cervical Cytology Tests, suture removal, and ECGs. Additionally, you will assist in the provision of Minor Surgery and Coil fittings. These procedures require precision, attention to detail, and excellent clinical knowledge to ensure patient safety and positive outcomes.
Health Promotion
A significant part of this role involves health promotion activities, including NHS and new patient health checks. You will be expected to provide lifestyle advice and support patients in making positive health changes. Experience in managing Long Term Conditions is desirable, or at least a strong interest in developing this skill.
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
RGN Qualification: All applicants must hold a Registered General Nurse qualification from an accredited institution.
Current NMC Registration: Applicants must have current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) in the UK.
Cervical Cytology Qualification: The ability to perform cervical cytology tests is essential for this role.
Desirable Qualifications
Accredited training in Chronic Disease Management: While not essential, training in chronic disease management would be advantageous for this position.
Prescribing qualification: A prescribing qualification would be beneficial but is not required for this role.
Additional Information
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
