About the Position

Smile Together is seeking experienced Locum Dentists to provide cover at our busy, well-established practices in Bodmin and Newquay, Cornwall. These fantastic opportunities offer a mix of NHS, Private, Plan, and Unscheduled Dental Care in supportive, modern environments. We provide competitive day rates and flexible working arrangements to suit your needs.

This locum position is available at two convenient locations in beautiful Cornwall:

• Bodmin: Harleigh Road Dental Clinic, Harleigh Road, Bodmin, Cornwall, PL31 1AH
• Newquay: Newquay & District Hospital, St. Thomas Road, Newquay, Cornwall, TR7 1RQ

Salary and Benefits

We offer competitive compensation with two payment options:

• Fixed day rate of £550 per day (no lab bills)
• Income split option based on: £14.50 UDA, 50% Private, 35% Plan, £23 per Unscheduled Dental Care patient, and 50% lab split

Additional benefits include flexible working patterns, supportive clinical teams, and opportunities to work across different dental services.

Key Responsibilities

As a Locum Dentist with Smile Together, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality dental care to NHS and private patients. Your key duties include:

• Delivering unscheduled and routine dental care to adults and children
• Applying evidence-based guidance in clinical examination, record keeping, and oral health prevention
• Managing acute dental conditions, dental trauma, endodontic emergencies, and extractions
• Treating patients with complex needs or medical histories
• Maintaining awareness of referral pathways and patient access routes
• Providing thorough clinical documentation for continuity of care
• Treating target numbers of patients efficiently while ensuring excellent patient experience

• Participating in peer review meetings, clinical audits, and development sessions

You will work collaboratively with various teams including:

li>Early Years Dentists and Apprentice Nurses

li>Other dental professionals across Smile Together

li>Clinical directors and operational leads

li>Support staff for unscheduled dental care services

The role requires flexibility to work from different locations when needed and to integrate effectively into local teams.

Person Specification – Qualifications

Essential:

• GDC registered and eligible to work in the UK

li>Current, active NHS performer number

li>Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degree

Essential:

• Experienced in NHS Dental work

li>Friendly, adaptable, and confident working independently

Professional Conduct

All dentists must adhere to the highest professional standards:

li>Maintain full GDC registration without conditions

li>Comply with Smile Together’s internal policies, procedures, and contractual obligations

li>Maintain appropriate indemnity cover

li>Take personal responsibility for understanding and complying with all relevant codes of conduct

Governance and Safety

You will be expected to:

li>Maintain safe working practices at all clinical sites

li>Ensure compliance with clinical governance requirements

li>Adhere to all health and safety procedures

li>Report incidents or near misses promptly

li>Maintain strong IT skills, particularly in using the Practice Management System

Organisational Engagement

As part of Smile Together’s Social Enterprise, you will:

li>Work with clinical directors to drive service improvement

li>Contribute to community-focused oral health innovation
