Job Summary
Isle of Wight NHS Trust is seeking a Consultant Physician in Acute Medicine (AAU) to join their dynamic team. This permanent, full-time position offers flexible working arrangements and compressed hours, with an annual salary ranging from £109,725 to £145,478.
About the Role
As a Consultant Physician in Acute Medicine, you will play a key role in developing and delivering acute care provisions, including the ongoing development of SDEC and Acute Medical Unit re-design. The position offers opportunities for prospective candidates to take on clinical leadership roles or develop their specialty interests as part of their acute job role.
Main Responsibilities
Your primary responsibilities will include providing comprehensive consultant/specialist led care for patients on the Acute Assessment Unit (AAU), a modern 24-bed ward located close to the Emergency Department. You will participate in daily consultant ward rounds (morning and afternoon) and twice-daily multi-disciplinary board rounds with specialty in-reach.
Clinical Duties
You will supervise and lead the SDEC service, which accepts direct referrals from GPs, Urgent Care, and the Emergency Department, and manages step-down patients. The role includes contributing to the Medicine on-call rota (currently 1 in 11 weekday nights and Saturday on-call), and the Acute Medicine 1 in 7 weekends on AAU.
Education and Development
You will engage in the education, mentoring, and supervision of junior medical staff and the development of Advanced Nurse Practitioner roles. Working seamlessly with Emergency Care, you will provide responsive in-reach, rolling reviews of medical patients, and early senior clinical decision-making.
