Job summary

This role provides senior medical input into the Community Paediatric service and offers the chance to make a significant impact on child healthcare in the UK.
The post will give you the opportunity to work in a range of community settings such as Special Schools and Community clinics. While based in Rotherham Hospital, you’ll have easy access to regular team meetings, supportive colleagues (including acute and community paediatricians), and good administrative support.

Key responsibilities
This role is offered as a part-time permanent post (3.5 days per week) and will comprise a job plan including 2 or more of the following responsibilities:
- Being the allocated doctor for one or more of Rotherham’s special schools, providing assessment, monitoring, advice, and well-planned transition to adult services
- Delivering neurodevelopmental clinics within the community
- Carrying out initial health assessments for children coming into care
- Carrying out medicals and associated work for the Children in Care service
- Adopting the role of Designated Doctor for Safeguarding (a statutory role funded by the Integrated Care Board for 1 day a week)
There are opportunities to expand your portfolio and personal interests, and to take part in ongoing service development. Educational opportunities are available to supervise and teach specialty community paediatric trainees and/or medical students from Sheffield University in clinical and group settings.
Essential qualifications
To be considered for this role, you must have:
- Full registration and a licence to practice with the GMC
- Eligibility to be included on the Specialist register (CCT expected within 6 months of interview date) OR evidence of CESR application submission
- MBBS or equivalent primary medical qualification
- Clear understanding of Clinical Governance
- Clear understanding of Clinical Effectiveness (audit and Quality Improvement)
Desirable qualifications
Additional qualifications that would strengthen your application include:
- Relevant publications in peer reviewed journals
- Experience of writing and developing clinical guidelines
- Experience in governance processes such risk assessment, Serious Incident reviews, and/or patient safety investigations
- Grid training in Community Paediatrics
- MSc/Diploma in community child health or relevant subject
Essential experience
You must have:
- Comprehensive training and experience in Community Paediatrics
- At least 2 years experience working in Community Child Health including evidence of work in Neurodevelopmental Paediatrics, Neurodisability, Safeguarding, Looked After Children, Special Schools, and Community clinics
- Training and experience in the identification and management of suspected child abuse and neglect
- Experience of multi-agency working within safeguarding and substantial experience of the legislation relating to children and young people
- Experience of working with vulnerable children and young people and families in challenging situations
- Valid Level 3 Safeguarding certification
Desirable experience
Additional experience that would strengthen your application includes:
- Experience or training in one or more of the following areas: Safeguarding, Children in Care services, EHCP work, Neurodisability, Public Health
- Experience of holding Named Doctor for Safeguarding or Children in Care role
- Level 4 Safeguarding certification
- Valid EPALS and NLS training
