Position Details
The Department of Radiology forms part of one of the most dynamic University Teaching Hospitals in the country, with an excellent reputation in patient care, research and development, and staff training/education. Location and Working Environment
The position is based at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH) in Norwich, with a requirement to live within a 15-mile radius of the base Trust or within 30 minutes travelling time. Norwich is a vibrant city in Norfolk with excellent transportation links, affordable living costs compared to other UK cities, and a high quality of life. The hospital offers free Park & Ride service direct to the NNUH site, making commuting convenient.
Salary and Benefits
The position offers a competitive salary ranging from £109,725 to £145,478 per annum, paid pro rata. This is based on the Hospital Medical and Dental Staff pay scheme at the Consultant grade. Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to be proficient in all aspects of diagnostic and interventional head and neck radiology, including plain film, ultrasound, CT (including CBCT), and MRI. Additional responsibilities include supporting fluoroscopic radiographers with vetting and reporting sialograms, and reviewing neck ultrasound images with head and neck sonographers.
Clinical Duties
The candidate will participate in head and neck and thyroid MDTs (multidisciplinary team meetings) as well as clinicoradiological meetings including the parathyroid meeting. The successful candidate will also participate in the general on-call rota, support MDTs, engage in research activities, and contribute to teaching programs. Job plan flexibility with consideration of extended working hours is desirable.
Teaching Responsibilities
As a major teaching trust with a radiology academy, the candidate will be expected to participate in the ST (Specialty Training) part 2 teaching program on Thursday afternoons, specifically in the head and neck modules. This provides an excellent opportunity to develop teaching skills and contribute to the training of future radiologists.
Essential Qualifications
Candidates must have entry on the GMC Specialist Register via CCT in clinical radiology (with proposed CCT date within 6 months of interview), CESR, European Community Rights, or an appropriate higher qualification. Full GMC registration with a licence to practise and FRCR or equivalent qualifications are essential. Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team are also required.
Desirable Qualifications
While not essential, MRCP/FRCS qualifications are desirable. Previous responsibility for service improvement and management skills are also considered advantageous. Experience in research or published papers in areas of special interest, and completion of a specialist fellowship are viewed positively.
Experience Requirements
Candidates must demonstrate awareness of the role of research in clinical practice and have extensive imaging experience, particularly in head and neck radiology. Experience in image-guided biopsy and drainage procedures at consultant level is essential. Overseas applicants must show equivalence to the 5 years training period required in the NHS for this specialty.
