Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Consultant ENT Surgeon with a particular interest in Otology to join our expanding team at West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to service development and transformation during a period of significant growth, with plans for a new hospital at the Watford site and a new surgical elective hub at St Albans City Hospital.
About the Role
The post offers a 10 PA job plan with a flexible working structure, supported professional activities, and a strong commitment to education, research, and clinical governance. You will be expected to contribute to teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, audit and service development initiatives, and provide high-quality patient care. As an addition to our team, you will work alongside 2 full-time Consultants, an Associate specialist, four specialty grade surgeons, a trainee registrar, and three SHOs.
Main Duties
The successful candidate will maintain the highest clinical standards in managing all patients presenting to the hospital and provide support to colleagues in managing adult and paediatric patients with ENT conditions. You will develop close links with the ENT team and undertake responsibilities in outpatient ENT clinics. Additional responsibilities include teaching and training intermediate-grade staff, junior medical staff, medical students, and ENT nursing staff.
Clinical Responsibilities
You will actively participate in departmental and Trust matters related to clinical governance and audit, taking responsibility for and engaging in continuing professional development. The service closely aligns with ENT services at London Northwest, Bedfordshire and East & North Herts Hospitals, with appointees joining the regional network on call via East & North Herts.
Person Specification
Essential Criteria
Full GMC registration is essential for this position. Candidates must have a UK CCT/peri-CCT and be on the UK specialist register. A proven ability to operate independently in tympanomastoid surgery and endoscopic sinus surgery is required. You should also have an appropriate higher ENT qualification/Fellowship.
Desirable Criteria

Salary and Benefits
