Responsibilities
Operational Duties
As a truck driver with GROUPE MONARCH LTD., you will be responsible for calculating the cost of truck repairs and new parts when necessary. This includes assessing vehicle maintenance needs and ensuring that any repairs are completed in a timely and cost-effective manner. You will also be responsible for planning or adjusting routes based on changing traffic conditions, weather, or delivery schedules.
Navigation and Route Optimization
You will utilize computer equipment, global positioning systems (GPS), and other navigation devices to plan the most efficient routes. This not only helps minimize fuel consumption but also reduces carbon emissions, aligning with our commitment to environmental sustainability. Your ability to navigate effectively will be crucial to maintaining our high standards of service.
Customer Service Excellence
Addressing customers’ complaints or concerns with professionalism and courtesy is an essential part of this role. You will serve as the face of our company during customer interactions, making your communication skills and professionalism critical to maintaining positive customer relationships. Professionalism in customer service is not just expected but required at all times.
Loading and Unloading
You will be responsible for loading and unloading goods safely and efficiently. This may include using equipment such as forklifts or pallet jacks, depending on the nature of the cargo. Proper loading techniques are essential to ensure the safety of both the cargo and yourself during transit. You must also ensure that all cargo is properly secured before departure.
Vehicle Maintenance and Inspection
A key responsibility is overseeing the condition of your vehicle at all times. This includes inspecting tires, lights, brakes, cold storage equipment, and all other mechanical components. You will perform pre-trip, en route, and post-trip inspections to ensure the vehicle is always in optimal operating condition.
Preventive Maintenance
You will be responsible for performing preventive maintenance on your assigned vehicle. This includes regular oil changes, filter replacements, and other routine maintenance tasks to prevent breakdowns and ensure vehicle longevity. Following the manufacturer’s maintenance schedule is critical to preventing costly repairs and ensuring safe operation.
Communication and Documentation
Receiving and relaying information to central dispatch is a vital part of your daily responsibilities. You will need to maintain clear and concise communication with dispatch regarding your location, delivery status, and any issues that may arise. Additionally, you will be responsible for recording cargo information, hours of service, distance traveled, and fuel consumption.
Cargo Safety and Security
Tarping and ensuring the safety and security of cargo is a critical responsibility. You must properly secure all loads according to transportation regulations to prevent shifting or damage during transit. For specialized cargo, you may need to follow additional safety protocols and procedures to ensure secure transportation.
Dangerous Goods Handling
If your assignments include transporting or handling dangerous goods, you must possess the appropriate certifications and follow all safety protocols. This includes understanding the nature of the materials being transported, proper handling procedures, and emergency response measures in case of accidents or spills.
Requirements and Qualifications
License and Certifications
All applicants must possess a valid Canadian driver’s license with the appropriate class for the vehicle you will be operating. Additional endorsements or certifications may be required depending on the type of cargo transported. Experience with specialized equipment or dangerous goods transportation is considered an asset.
Experience
Previous experience as a truck driver is highly preferred. While entry-level positions may be available, candidates with proven experience in commercial driving, particularly in the Brampton or Greater Toronto Area, will be given priority consideration. Experience with route planning, vehicle maintenance, and customer service is also valuable.
Language Skills
Proficiency in English is required for this position, as it involves communicating with dispatch, customers, and completing necessary documentation. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly French, is considered an asset and may open up additional opportunities within the company.
Physical Requirements
