Position Overview
As a Sheet Metal Worker with Bendtin Mechanical Inc., you will be responsible for fabricating, installing, and maintaining sheet metal products for various construction projects. Location and Schedule
Our work site is located in Burnaby, BC with postal code V5C 4B9. The position requires on-site work and operates on a day and shift schedule. We offer 40 hours per week of consistent employment with permanent terms. The position starts as soon as possible, and we currently have two vacancies available.
Compensation
We offer a competitive hourly wage of $36.60 per hour, which reflects the skilled nature of this work and the experience required. This compensation package is designed to attract and retain qualified professionals in the sheet metal trade.
Key Responsibilities
As a Sheet Metal Worker, your responsibilities will include calculating heating and cooling loads, designing duct systems, and manufacturing various sheet metal products. You will be expected to read blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine work requirements and select appropriate equipment for residential and small commercial construction projects.
Fabrication and Manufacturing
You will be responsible for manufacturing and assembling different prefabricated fibreglass elements, as well as manufacturing and assembling ducts for hot air heating, air conditioning and ventilation systems. Additionally, you will manufacture and assemble water evacuation systems for buildings.
Technical Skills
The position requires expertise in measuring and marking sheet metal according to templates, operating metalworking machines to cut, punch, drill, shape or straighten sheet metal, and operating specialized equipment such as laser cutters and plasma cutters. You will also develop computerized patterns and layouts for various sheet metal products.
Quality Control and Supervision
Quality assurance is crucial in this role. You will inspect products to ensure quality and conformity to specifications, grind and buff seams, joints and rough surfaces, and schedule work effectively. Additionally, there may be opportunities to instruct apprentices and supervise other workers on-site.
Installation and Construction
You will be responsible for fitting and joining sheet metal parts, installing sheet metal products according to specifications and building codes, assembling, erecting and installing hoisting and rigging equipment, and cutting materials using both power tools and by hand as required.
Required Experience
Successful candidates should have experience in custom sheet metal items, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, pre-fabricated metal buildings, and sheeting and cladding. We value hands-on experience in the sheet metal trade and knowledge of industry standards and best practices.
Technical Proficiencies
Applicants should be proficient in utilizing computerized quantity take-off systems, preparing tenders and quotations, estimating costs and materials, and developing technical specifications. Experience with various metalworking machines and tools is essential for this position.
