Coleman Technical Industries Limited ("Coleman") was incorporated on the 1st of July, 1975. The Company was founded on the principles of developing local industries that would in turn create jobs through the production of good quality products that meet international standards.
The principal operation of Coleman is the manufacturing of electrical wires and cables for Oil Industries, Commercial and Residential. We manufacture a wide range of high quality standard and specialty cables.
Our first factory was established in 1998 at 149/151, Idimu Road, Ikotun, Lagos with a capacity to process 1,200 metric tons of Copper and 800 metric tons of Aluminium per annum. In 2009, we commissioned the largest ultra-modern cable factory in West Africa, located at KM 34, Lagos – Ibadan, Expressway which now serves as our Headquarters while the first factory serves as our Lagos office. This new factory has a floor capacity of 15,000 square metres with an installed production capacity to process 15,000 metric tons of Copper and 18,000 metric tons of Aluminium per annum which is equivalent of 50% of the Country’s total capacity in House Wiring, AAC, ACSR and Power cables.
Coleman is a member of Cable Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (CAMAN) which comprises all top-rated cable manufacturing companies in Nigeria. We have been a full member of this association since year 2001 and have fulfilled all quality standards to keep our position in the association. As a result, we have been receiving Nigeria Industrial Standard (NIS) and Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) certifications since 2002. We are seeking a Quality Control Officer to ensure all products meet industry standards, regulatory requirements, and company quality benchmarks.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for inspecting raw materials, monitoring production, conducting tests, and maintaining quality records to uphold product excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Assurance & Inspection:
Conduct rigorous inspections of raw materials (e.g., copper, aluminum, insulation materials) to verify compliance with company specifications.
Monitor every stage of cable production, identifying and addressing deviations from standard operating procedures.
Perform random and routine quality checks on semi-finished and finished cables to ensure compliance with internal and external standards.
Implement sampling procedures and statistical analysis to assess production quality.
Testing & Compliance:
Conduct mechanical, electrical, and environmental tests on low and high-voltage cables, including:
Conductor resistance testing
Insulation resistance testing
High-voltage withstand testing
Flame retardancy and fire resistance testing
Tensile strength and elongation tests
Ensure that all testing is in compliance with IEC, NIS, SON, and ISO 9001 standards.
Work closely with the standards and certification teams to maintain regulatory compliance.
Investigate and resolve customer complaints related to quality issues and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
Process Improvement & Reporting:
Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives in manufacturing processes to enhance quality and reduce defects.
Develop and enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for quality assurance and control.
Maintain comprehensive documentation of all inspections, test results, and quality incidents.
Prepare and present detailed reports on quality performance metrics to senior management.
Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and work with production teams to implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
Supplier & Material Quality Management:
Evaluate and approve new suppliers and materials to ensure they meet company quality standards.
Conduct supplier audits and work with vendors to address material quality issues.
Ensure traceability of materials, from procurement to production and final product delivery.
Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance:
Ensure all quality control processes align with safety regulations and environmental policies.
Work closely with the Health & Safety team to maintain a safe working environment.
Participate in safety audits, risk assessments, and compliance training sessions.
Training & Development:
Provide training sessions for production staff on quality standards, best practices, and defect prevention.
Stay up to date with industry advancements and recommend improvements in testing methodologies.
Assist in the development of quality control manuals and training materials.
Qualifications & Experience
Educational Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Chemistry, Polymer Science, or a related technical field.
Additional certifications in Quality Control, ISO 9001, Six Sigma, or Total Quality Management (TQM) are a plus.
Experience:
1-5 years of experience in a quality control role, preferably in a cable manufacturing or electrical components industry.
Hands-on experience with cable testing equipment (e.g., high-voltage testers, tensile testing machines, insulation resistance meters).
Strong knowledge of cable manufacturing processes, including extrusion, stranding, and sheathing.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in quality control tools (e.g., Statistical Process Control, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis, Root Cause Analysis).
Ability to interpret engineering drawings, production blueprints, and technical specifications.
Familiarity with local and international cable manufacturing standards (IEC, NIS, SON, ISO 9001).
