The Program Coordinator will lead the effective coordination and implementation of the community-led Gender-Based Violence (GBV) prevention initiative across Bokkos and Jos East LGAs.
The role will provide strategic and operational oversight of stakeholder engagement, community dialogues, implementation of the Community-led GBV Prevention Framework, and the work of GBV champions. It will also ensure that implementation is inclusive, conflict-sensitive, safeguarding-compliant, and aligned with donor and WfWI requirements.
The Program Coordinator works closely with the consultant to support with access to relevant stakeholders, community consultations, feedback, and information required for the development of the GBV framework, while ensuring that the resulting framework is practical, locally owned, and implementable.
Duties and Responsibilities
Program Planning, Coordination and Implementation:
Develop and implement a comprehensive work plan to guide Program delivery across Bokkos and Jos East LGAs, including WfWI’s formal introduction of the initiative to Paramount Rulers and other relevant authorities to secure legitimacy, ownership, and community buy-in.
Coordinate the overall implementation of the Program across the two LGAs, ensuring activities are delivered in accordance with approved plans, timelines, budgets, and donor requirements.
Coordinate the implementation of the Community-led GBV Prevention Framework, including community dialogue, feedback integration, dissemination, and implementation.
Work closely with Paramount Rulers, Traditional Ruling Council (TRC) leaders, community representatives, women leaders, Gender-Based Violence (GBV) champions, Community Based Organizations (CBOs), and other stakeholders throughout the project implementation period.
Stakeholder Engagement and Community Mobilisation:
Map and maintain an up-to-date stakeholder directory covering communities, villages, wards, districts, organizations, associations, churches, mosques, and other relevant structures across the two LGAs.
Develop and implement a structured stakeholder engagement plan based on the mapping exercise.
Coordinate multi-stakeholder engagements, including inception meetings with Paramount Rulers, engagements with male TRC leaders, women leaders, wives of TRC leaders, GBV champions, CBOs, women's associations, and other relevant stakeholders.
Organize and facilitate TRC meetings and other community-level dialogues to strengthen ownership of the GBV prevention initiative.
Organize preparatory sessions with women leaders to orient them on the project and prepare them for the TRC Leaders' Dialogue.
Community-Led GBV Prevention and Leadership:
Support Paramount Rulers, TRC leaders, and community stakeholders to strengthen community-led approaches to GBV prevention.
Supervise and provide technical support to GBV champions, including TRC leaders, in implementing GBV prevention messaging, strengthening safe spaces, promoting reporting and referral pathways, and implementing agreed community actions.
Coordinate the high-level roundtable led by the Paramount Rulers of Bokkos and Jos East LGAs, bringing together TRC leaders, women leaders, state actors, and community representatives to endorse the Community-led GBV Prevention Framework.
Partnership and Consultant Management:
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the GBV consultant and other project partners to ensure timely and quality delivery of agreed outputs.
Provide coordination and oversight of the consultant developing the GBV Prevention Framework, ensuring that community perspectives and stakeholder feedback are appropriately incorporated.
Liaise with the PCC & Administration Manager, MERL Manager, Finance and Logistics Manager and other relevant WfWI staff to ensure effective cross-functional implementation of the Program.
Program Monitoring, Documentation and Learning:
Monitor Program activities and stakeholder engagements across the two LGAs to assess progress, identify emerging risks, and support timely corrective action.
Maintain accurate documentation of Program activities, including attendance records, photographs, meeting minutes, stakeholder feedback, and other relevant evidence.
Capture lessons learned, emerging good practices, challenges, and community-level changes to inform Program adaptation and future scale-up.
Prepare and submit timely Program reports using donor-approved templates and reporting requirements.
Budget and Resource Management:
Manage the Ford Program budget and spending plan in accordance with approved budgets, WfWI financial policies, and donor requirements.
Monitor Program expenditure and work closely with the Finance Department to ensure appropriate utilization of resources and timely identification of budget variances.
Ensure that Program activities are implemented within approved financial and operational parameters.
Supervision and Team Management:
Provide appropriate supervision, coaching, guidance, and support to GBV Champions and other Program personnel assigned to the project.
Set clear expectations and monitor performance against agreed responsibilities and deliverables.
Promote effective teamwork, accountability, and adherence to WfWI safeguarding and operational standards.
Accountability and Compliance:
Ensure that all Program activities comply with WfWI policies, safeguarding standards, donor requirements, and applicable community engagement protocols.
Ensure that community engagement processes are inclusive, participatory, conflict-sensitive, and responsive to the needs of women and other vulnerable groups.

Skills and Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Gender Studies, Community Development, International Development, or a related field. A relevant postgraduate qualification will be an added advantage.
Minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience, including at least 5 years in program coordination, project management, or a similar role, preferably within an NGO or international NGO.
Demonstrated experience managing or coordinating community-based program, particularly in GBV prevention, women’s rights, gender equality, social services, community development, or related areas.
Demonstrated commitment to preventing and responding to violence against women and girls and promoting gender equality and women's rights.
Experience working directly with traditional institutions, community leadership structures, or faith-based organizations.
Experience developing or implementing a GBV prevention framework, community action plan, or social norms change initiative.
Knowledge of the Nigerian legal and policy framework relating to GBV, women's rights, safeguarding, and protection.
Experience working in conflict-affected or fragile communities.
Strong understanding of gender issues and GBV, including the influence of traditional gender roles, social norms, power dynamics, and other factors contributing to violence against women and girls.
Demonstrated understanding of the role of men, traditional leaders, and community structures in preventing GBV, with experience engaging these groups in community mobilization and social and behavioural change initiatives.
Demonstrated experience applying participatory, gender-sensitive, inclusive, and community-led approaches to program design and implementation.
Proven ability to develop work plans, coordinate program activities, manage budgets, monitor implementation, and deliver results within agreed timelines.
Strong stakeholder engagement and facilitation skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with traditional leaders, government representatives, women and men's groups, community-based organizations, and other stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to lead, supervise, coach, and motivate teams, consultants, community structures, and other stakeholders to achieve program objectives.
Experience coordinating and managing relationships with consultants and implementing partners, including supporting consultations, incorporating stakeholder feedback, and ensuring delivery of agreed outputs.
Knowledge of community mobilization and dialogue approaches that promote local ownership, sustainable action, and positive social and behavioural change.
Strong report writing, documentation, analytical, and communication skills, with the ability to report on outcomes, impact, lessons learned, challenges, and recommendations rather than activities alone.
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English, with oral fluency in Hausa required for effective engagement with communities in the program locations.
Strong computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Strong interpersonal, negotiation, problem-solving, coordination, and relationship-management skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently and collaboratively, and meet tight deadlines.
Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and adaptability, with the ability to work respectfully and effectively with diverse communities and stakeholders.
