The FMCG Strategy Consultant will serve as a high-level advisory partner to the Group Principal and leadership team. Working from a body of internal research already developed by the Group, the Consultant will assess the viability of identified FMCG opportunities, provide expert strategic recommendations, and guide the Group toward the product lines and market positions best suited to its strengths and long-term objectives.
This is a consulting engagement. However, depending on alignment and mutual interest, the role may evolve into a full-time General Manager position leading the Group's FMCG division
Key Responsibilities
Research & Opportunity Assessment
Review and evaluate existing internal FMCG research developed by the Group
Narrow down identified product/sector options to the most viable candidates based on market conditions, competitive dynamics, and Group capabilities
Conduct supplementary market intelligence as required to stress-test findings
Strategic Advisory
Provide clear, expert recommendations on which FMCG opportunities to pursue, deprioritise, or avoid
Present structured, evidence-based analysis to the Group Principal and board members
Advise on go-to-market strategy, product positioning, distribution channels, and competitive differentiation for recommended product lines
Feasibility & Implementation Planning
Develop business case frameworks for shortlisted FMCG ventures including financial projections, investment requirements, and risk assessments
Map out phased implementation roadmaps for approved product lines
Identify key partnerships, suppliers, regulatory requirements, and operational enablers
Stakeholder Engagement
Serve as a trusted thought partner to the Group Principal throughout the engagement
Liaise with relevant internal teams and external parties as needed
Provide periodic structured updates and formal advisory reports

Qualifications & Experience
Minimum 7 years of hands-on experience in the FMCG sector in Nigeria or the broader West African market
Proven track record in product strategy, market entry, or FMCG business development
Prior experience in a consulting, business development, or senior management capacity
Strong analytical and commercial acumen – able to cut through complexity to deliver actionable guidance
Excellent communication and presentation skills; capable of advising at Principal/C-suite level
A professional network within the Nigerian FMCG ecosystem (manufacturers, distributors, retailers) is a significant advantage
MBA or equivalent advanced qualification preferred; relevant certifications in FMCG, supply chain, or consumer goods management are a plus
