Key Responsibilities
As a Cook’s Helper, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the efficient operation of our kitchen. Your duties will encompass a wide range of tasks that support our cooking staff and ensure a positive dining experience for our customers. You will be responsible for maintaining cleanliness, assisting with food preparation, and providing excellent customer service.
Food Preparation Tasks
You will be responsible for preparing, heating, and finishing simple food items under supervision. This includes washing, peeling, and cutting vegetables and fruits to ensure they are ready for cooking. You will also portion and wrap foods, package take-out orders, and maintain records of food quantities used. Additionally, you will use manual and electrical appliances to clean, peel, slice, and trim various foodstuffs as needed.
Kitchen Maintenance
Maintaining a clean and organized kitchen is essential. You will clean and sanitize all kitchen areas, including work surfaces, cupboards, storage areas, appliances, and equipment. You will handle and store cleaning products properly, remove kitchen garbage and trash regularly, and sweep, mop, wash, and polish floors to ensure a hygienic environment.
Dishwashing and Sanitation
Proper dishwashing and sanitation are critical aspects of this role. You will sanitize and wash dishes and other items by hand, scour pots and pans, and clean and sanitize items such as dishwasher mats, carts, and waste disposal units. You will also bring clean dishes, flatware, and other items to serving areas and set tables according to our standards.
Customer Service
When needed, you will serve customers at counters or buffet tables, take customers’ orders, and provide friendly and efficient service. You will replenish condiments and other supplies at tables and serving areas to ensure customers have everything they need for a pleasant dining experience.
Inventory and Storage
You will be responsible for receiving, unpacking, and storing supplies in refrigerators, freezers, cupboards, and other storage areas. Additionally, you will stock refrigerators and salad bars, load buspans and trays, and place dishes in the storage area in an organized manner.
Required Experience
While no formal education is required for this position, we are seeking candidates with experience using conventional ovens and electronic cash registers. Familiarity with basic food preparation techniques and kitchen equipment is essential. Previous experience in a food service environment is considered an asset but not mandatory.
