About the Opportunity
London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust seeks a full-time Locum Consultant in Orthopaedics specializing in Paediatric Trauma, Adolescent Trauma, and Adult Soft Tissue Knee Reconstruction. This 12-month fixed-term role involves working across Northwick Park, Central Middlesex, and Ealing Hospitals.
Role Overview
The position requires balancing trauma and elective commitments based on service demands. Responsibilities include operating lists (elective and trauma), ward rounds, outpatient clinics, mortality & morbidity presentations, and departmental teaching participation. You will develop a paediatric trauma service at Northwick Park Hospital.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and lead the paediatric trauma service, supervise middle-grade doctors, prepare for departmental management duties, and contribute to multidisciplinary team development. Regular participation in clinical governance activities and departmental teaching meetings is essential.
Essential Qualifications
Applicants must hold FRCS or equivalent higher orthopaedic qualification, have passed FRCS in Trauma & Orthopaedics, and maintain GMC registration with a valid license to practice. Essential qualifications must be verifiable through official certification.
Management Requirements
Demonstrated understanding of clinical governance principles is required. The successful candidate must participate in Trust-level management duties, show leadership capabilities, and effectively motivate the multidisciplinary team while contributing to departmental strategic planning.
Desirable Experience
NHS experience within the last 3 years is highly desirable. Being on the GMC Trauma & Orthopaedic Specialist Register or within 6 months of obtaining CCT/CESR will strengthen your application. Experience in paediatric trauma services is particularly valued.

Remuneration Package

Working Pattern
Full-time position (10 programmed activities per week) across three hospital sites. The rota includes both elective and trauma operating, fracture clinics, and general orthopaedic outpatient services. On-call duties are required as per departmental rotas.
