About the Role
North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust (NCIC) is seeking a forward-thinking and motivated Locum Consultant in Acute Medicine to join their team. This is an excellent opportunity for international medical professionals looking to work in the UK healthcare system. The role involves providing care across both West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven and Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle, with primary job planning based at Whitehaven.
Key Responsibilities
This post offers the opportunity to be at the forefront of developing new and innovative approaches and services for the residents of North Cumbria, a uniquely beautiful and challenging area. You will be expected to submit documentation for the GMC Portfolio Pathway within 18 months of your start date. The position involves working in Acute Medical Units with an unselected medical take at both sites, delivering Same Day Emergency Care services, and participating in transformational improvement work.

Essential Qualifications
Education and Qualifications:
- Full Registration with the General Medical Council
- Member of the Royal College of Physicians or equivalent
- Proof of competency in emergency and elective index cases
Essential Experience
Experience and Knowledge:
- High level of clinical experience and competence in Acute Medicine
- Excellent communication skills with patients, colleagues, managers and other staff
- Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
- Experience of and commitment to teaching undergraduate and postgraduate medical staff
- Experience of, and commitment to, medical audit
- Experience of research and Clinical Governance
Desirable Qualifications
Additional Requirements:
- A commitment to, and experience of teaching
- Special interest or certification in any medical specialty
- Entry on the GMC specialist register via relevant CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview), relevant CESR or European Community Rights
- Completed Higher Specialist Training (CCT) in General (Internal) Medicine, Acute Internal Medicine or evidence of equivalent competency
- An interest in developing links with Primary Care
- Experience of teaching clinical skills to undergraduates
- Teaching of non-medical health professionals
- Educational Qualification
- Publications in referred journals
- Ability to supervise postgraduate research
