As an Agricultural Equipment Technician, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the productivity of our agricultural clients by ensuring their equipment operates at peak performance.
Position Overview
The Agricultural Equipment Technician position at Future Ag Inc is a hands-on role that requires technical expertise and problem-solving skills. You will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of agricultural equipment, including tractors, combines, and various farming implements. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled technician to work with cutting-edge agricultural technology while contributing to the success of Alberta’s vital agricultural industry.
Key Responsibilities
Your primary responsibilities as an Agricultural Equipment Technician will include troubleshooting and inspecting equipment to detect faults and malfunctions. You will use computerized and other testing equipment to diagnose the extent of repairs required. Additional duties include adjusting equipment and repairing or replacing defective parts, testing repaired equipment to ensure it meets manufacturers’ specifications, and attaching components and adjusting new farm equipment. You will also perform routine maintenance such as cleaning and lubricating machinery, as well as repair work on heavy trucks and telecommunications equipment used in agricultural operations.
Technical Expertise Required
To excel in this role, you should have strong technical skills and mechanical aptitude. The position requires proficiency in using diagnostic equipment, hand tools, and specialized machinery repair tools. You must be able to read technical manuals and schematics, understand hydraulic and electrical systems, and have knowledge of agricultural equipment mechanics. Your ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail will be essential for success in this position.
Problem-Solving Skills
A key aspect of this position is the ability to diagnose and resolve equipment issues efficiently. You will need to think critically when faced with mechanical problems, identifying root causes rather than just addressing symptoms. Your problem-solving skills will be put to the test daily as you work to minimize equipment downtime for our agricultural clients, ensuring their operations continue smoothly throughout the growing season.
Customer Service
While primarily a technical role, the Agricultural Equipment Technician position also requires excellent customer service skills. You will interact directly with farmers and agricultural business owners, explaining technical issues in understandable terms and providing clear recommendations for repairs and maintenance. Building strong relationships with clients is important for Future Ag Inc’s business success and for your career growth within the company.
Physical Requirements
This role involves physical work, including standing for extended periods, lifting heavy components (up to 50 pounds), and working in various weather conditions. You may need to climb, bend, and work in tight spaces while performing repairs. The ability to safely operate equipment and follow all safety protocols is mandatory. Good physical stamina and health are essential to perform the job effectively throughout the year.
Schedule and Working Environment
The Agricultural Equipment Technician position is a full-time role working 40 hours per week, typically Monday through Friday. However, some weekend or evening work may be required during peak farming seasons or emergency situations. You will primarily work at our facility at 34 Boulder Blvd in Stony Plain, but field service calls to client locations may also be necessary. The workshop is well-equipped with modern tools and diagnostic equipment to support your work.
Required Qualifications
Future Ag Inc is looking for candidates with a combination of education and experience in agricultural equipment repair or diesel mechanics. While specific formal education requirements are not specified, a certificate or diploma in automotive, diesel, or agricultural mechanics would be advantageous. Equivalent work experience in equipment repair, particularly with agricultural machinery, is highly valued. The ideal candidate will have experience with computerized diagnostic systems and a proven track record of troubleshooting and repairing complex mechanical systems.
Benefits Package
Future Ag Inc offers a comprehensive benefits package to our full-time employees. This includes a health care plan with dental coverage, disability benefits, and life insurance. We also provide group insurance benefits to help protect you and your family. In addition to these benefits, we offer competitive compensation at $45.00 per hour, reflecting the value we place on skilled technicians in our organization.
