About the Role
NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership is seeking an experienced Senior Lawyer to join their Inquest Team. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a thriving and growing team that provides advice and support to clients across Wales in respect of Inquests. As a senior lawyer, you will be a key member of the team, supervising others and delivering training whilst providing high quality legal services to NHS clients.
Key Responsibilities
The role involves managing your own caseload of complex Inquest matters and conducting advocacy. You will be responsible for providing legal services in areas including Mental Health and Clinical Negligence, with specific experience in multi-day Article 2 inquests before juries being essential. As a senior member of the team, you will also be expected to train, mentor and professionally supervise more junior members.
Person Specification
Qualifications and/or Knowledge
Essential: You must hold a Law degree & Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice (or equivalent). You must be a qualified lawyer who is either a solicitor admitted to the roll of solicitors of England and Wales, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEx) with Civil Proceedings Advocacy certification, or a barrister admitted to the bar in England and Wales. Relevant legal knowledge is also essential.
Desirable: A background in the NHS or public sector would be advantageous.
Experience
Essential: You must have substantial relevant post-qualification experience in litigation gained through practice. You should also have extensive experience in drafting documents and experience of managing people.
Desirable: Experience of reviewing large numbers of documents, defendant litigation in relevant fields of law, and making presentations to legal staff would be beneficial.
Aptitude and Abilities
Essential: Strong IT skills and computer literacy are required, including the ability to learn new technologies. You must be able to communicate effectively in all formats on complex business and legal processes, and demonstrate negotiation skills in often difficult or emotional circumstances.
You should be able to prioritise and organise your own work while being an effective team leader, recognise your own capabilities, and possess the enthusiasm to train, mentor and professionally supervise junior team members.
Desirable: Experience of writing reports for senior and executive audiences, higher advocacy skills, and social media experience would be advantageous. Welsh language skills at levels 1-5 in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing are desirable.

Salary: £65,424 to £76,021 per annum
