Job Responsibilities
The successful candidate will provide surgical expertise for paediatric deformity cases while maintaining a substantial commitment to adult elective and emergency spinal surgery. Responsibilities include inpatient and day case procedures, outpatient clinics, and participation in a 24/7 on-call service with current 1:10 rotational commitment. The role encompasses clinical governance, service development, and collaboration within multidisciplinary teams.
Candidates with demonstrated research interests and commitment to service quality improvement will be particularly valued. The position requires consultant-level decision-making capabilities for complex spinal conditions, including early onset scoliosis, spinal trauma, and degenerative disorders. Person Specification
Essential Qualifications and Training
- FRCS (Orthopaedics) or equivalent specialist qualification
- Entry on GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of eligibility
- Completion of recognized spinal surgery training program
- Current GMC registration with license to practice
Desirable Qualifications and Training
- Higher medical or associated research degree
- Advanced microsurgical techniques certification
- Minimum 2-year Spinal Fellowship
