Job Summary
The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a highly motivated Consultant Urologist with a specialist interest in Robotic Renal Surgery, including robot-assisted partial and radical nephrectomy. This position is designed to support the expansion and consolidation of the Trust’s renal cancer service, working alongside existing robotic capability to deliver high-quality, consultant-led care.

Location Details
The position is based at Russells Hall Hospital, located at Pensnett Road, Dudley, DY1 2HQ. The hospital serves the Dudley community and surrounding areas, providing comprehensive healthcare services. Salary and Benefits
This position offers a competitive salary ranging from £109,725 to £145,478 per annum, paid according to the Hospital Medical and Dental Staff pay scheme. The role is a permanent, full-time position with annualised hours, providing stability and comprehensive benefits including NHS pension scheme, generous annual leave, and opportunities for professional development.
Contract Details
The position is a permanent, full-time contract with annualised hours. The proposed work programme comprises 10 programmed activities (8.5 Direct Clinical Care and 1.5 Supporting Professional Activities). The post holder will have no clinical commitments on Wednesday morning and may undertake extra sessions depending on departmental needs.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will provide specialist consultant-level care in robotic renal surgery, including robot-assisted partial and radical nephrectomy. Key responsibilities include contributing to a high-quality, consultant-led renal cancer service; providing senior clinical input into patient assessment, diagnosis, treatment, monitoring, and discharge; and working closely with the renal MDT to ensure timely, evidence-based decision-making.
Additional Responsibilities
The post holder will play a key role in maintaining and developing the Trust’s robotic renal surgical capability, acting as a role model to junior medical staff by providing supervision, support, and feedback. They will ensure patients and their carers are involved in treatment planning, provide regular feedback on progress, and contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate medical education programmes.
Elective Duties
Specific elective duties include delivering robot-assisted renal surgery in line with national standards; contributing to robotic theatre list planning; supporting trainees and fellows in robotic renal surgery; conducting outpatient and elective day-case and inpatient activity; and maintaining effective communication with patients, carers, and healthcare colleagues.
Emergency Duties
The post holder will oversee assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of emergency admissions; provide senior decision-making for complex renal and urological emergencies; ensure patients are reviewed daily; manage theatre list planning for appropriate treatment times; and provide leadership and supervision to junior doctors during emergency on-call periods.
Person Specification – Essential Qualifications
Essential qualifications include relevant professional qualifications; degree from a recognized university; MRCP (UK); full GMC registration with a licence to practice; and entry on the GMC Specialist Register via Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR), or training/experience in Robotic Renal Surgery.
Desirable Qualifications
Desirable qualifications include ability to manage and lead a specialist unit if required; experience of teaching special clinical skills; post CCT fellowship; ability to independently perform complex renal cancer surgery; experience of working within a renal cancer MDT; and experience contributing to development or expansion of robotic renal services.
Essential Experience
Essential experience includes clinical training equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCST/CST; ability to take full responsibility for patient care; ability to organize and prioritize workload effectively; ability to advise on smooth running of specialist services; and ability to prioritize workloads under conflicting pressures.
