About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and motivated Consultant Surgeon to join the General and GI Surgery Department at Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust (MYTT). This is a pivotal moment in our organisation’s development, offering you the chance to make significant contributions to our surgical services.
We offer a supportive, collaborative, and forward-thinking environment with excellent opportunities for professional growth and sub-specialist development. The successful candidate will receive mentoring for the first 12 months and be supported in developing robotic surgical skills through structured departmental training.
Job Responsibilities
Emergency On-Call Commitment
The post holder will participate in the on-call General Surgery rota with a 1:9 resident schedule, alternating between first and second on-call (paired with Upper GI and Colorectal surgeons). Non-resident nights follow a 1:18 pattern. Consultants are expected to reside within 30 minutes of the acute site.
During on-call weeks, all elective activity is cancelled, with separate admin time allocated following acute work. Responsibilities include supervision and participation in emergency procedures, post-take ward rounds, and clinical decision-making for acute admissions.
Bariatric Service Commitments
In addition to on-call duties, you will undertake regular job-planned activities supporting the Specialist Obesity and Bariatric Service (SOBS). This includes delivering comprehensive clinical care to maintain a safe, high-quality bariatric service through specialist outpatient and theatre sessions, plus active participation in multidisciplinary team meetings.
