Role Details
This permanent, full-time position for a Consultant in Community General Psychiatry offers a competitive salary of £110,240 to £160,951 per annum. The role is based at South Pembrokeshire Hospital, Community Mental Health Team in Pembroke Dock. Key Responsibilities
As a Consultant Psychiatrist, you will provide clinical leadership across community and inpatient services, helping to shape the future of adult mental health care in Pembrokeshire. Working closely with a dedicated multidisciplinary team, you will ensure services are compassionate, evidence-based, and responsive to the needs of our local population. Key responsibilities include delivering high-quality clinical care in Adult General Psychiatry, leading and supporting the multidisciplinary team, and contributing to teaching, training, and research activities.
Additional Responsibilities
You will apply your expertise in assessment, treatment, and community management while supporting the development of medical students, junior doctors, and wider staff. The role also involves participating in CPD, audit, and service improvement initiatives. Person Specification – Qualifications and Knowledge
Essential requirements include full registration and a License to Practice with the General Medical Council. You must be on the GMC Specialist Register (including via Portfolio Pathway (CESR)/European Community Rights) or will have CCT due within six months of interview date. Experience of leading a team is essential, along with Section 12 Approval. Where a sub-specialty interest is required, sub-specialty training should be to a level appropriate for UK consultant sub-specialist practice.
Person Specification – Clinical Experience
You must demonstrate broad based experience within the specialty area and be able to demonstrate core competencies and clinical skills relevant to the post. Previous experience working in the UK or NHS is desirable but not essential. The ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team is crucial for success in this role.
Person Specification – Clinical Governance
A thorough understanding of the role of Clinical Governance is essential. You should have experience participating in clinical audit or quality improvement projects and understand the role of audit in improving medical practice. Knowledge of the annual job planning/appraisal review process is also required, with knowledge of risk management being desirable.
Person Specification – Teaching and Research
The ability to critically assess learning requirements for self and others is essential, along with evidence of organising programmes and teaching all staff groups. You should demonstrate knowledge of current research and best practice in the specialty area, with evidence of keeping up to date with current developments. Active participation in research is desirable.
