Barts Health NHS Trust is seeking a substantive Consultant Cardiologist with sub-specialty expertise in Cardio-Oncology and Imaging to join our internationally recognised cardiac centres. Key Responsibilities
The appointed Consultant Cardiologist will join two internationally recognised cardiac centres to develop and deliver high-quality services in cardio-oncology and advanced imaging/heart failure. The role supports inpatient and outpatient care, service development, research, and education across Barts Heart Centre (Barts Health NHS Trust) and the Royal Free Hospital (Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust).
Job Structure and Activities
The job plan will contain 10 Programmed Activities per week on average plus weekend on-call for general cardiology at Barts Health NHS Trust (currently 1 in 9). The post holder will work approximately 8.5 Pas (direct clinical care) per week, and 1.5 Pas (supporting) when averaged through the year. A formal job plan will be agreed between the appointee and Clinical Directors, on behalf of the Medical Director.
Proposed 10 PA Model (Full-time)
- 6 PAs at Barts Heart Centre (including cardio-oncology clinics, MDTs, inpatient care and general cardiology)
- 4 PAs at Royal Free Hospital (cardio-oncology clinics, MDTs, inpatient care and general cardiology)
- 1.5 SPA (from the total above) should be used for supporting activities (audit, teaching, research, CPD)
On-call Commitment
Participation in the weekend general cardiology consultant on-call rota may be requested (currently 1 in 9).
Education and Training Responsibilities
The post holder will be expected to contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate medical education at both sites as part of the Trusts Centre of Excellence Strategy. This includes providing training, development and supervision in both general cardio-oncology and subspecialty cardio-oncology, as well as training and support development for the wider multiprofessional team.
Teaching and Development
The successful candidate will support wider general cardiology training including in general cardiology and cardiac imaging to specialist registrars, fellows, and allied health professionals. There is also the option to become a Senior Lecturer in the Medical School, with the understanding that the post holder will participate in undergraduate training.
