Compensation Package

Haematology Services at UHB
The UHB Haematology Service delivers tertiary specialised services including Level 3 & 4 stem cell transplantation, CAR-T cell therapy, gene-edited stem cell therapy, teenage and young adult (TYA) cancer care, full therapeutic apheresis/plasma exchange services including in house extracorporeal photopheresis, a specialist integrated haematological malignancy diagnostic service (known as MIRHO), the regional comprehensive haemophilia centre including provision of gene therapy and TTP care.
Facilities and Resources
Inpatient care is based at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham (QEHB), which has more than 60 inpatient beds along with the dedicated Young Persons Unit for TYA care. Outpatient services include ambulatory and day unit provision of chemotherapy, cellular therapy and other haematological treatments. The Centre for Clinical Haematology (CCH) serves as the day case, apheresis/ECP, outpatient facility at QEH, refurbished in 2018.
Job Description
The Birmingham Cellular Therapy and Transplantation (BCCTT) performed more than 330 cellular therapies in 2024, of which 119 were allogeneic stem cell transplants. The new appointee will join this integrated team delivering complex therapies including stem cell transplantation for patients from the West Midlands with myeloid malignancies.
Clinical Responsibilities
The appointee should be able to demonstrate experience and specific interest in the management of patients with myeloid malignancies including AML, MDS, myeloproliferative conditions and bone marrow failure syndromes. They should also have knowledge and experience of the delivery of stem cell transplantation and post-transplant care, including management of transplant complications.
Regional Collaboration
A regional myeloid MDT complements the internal haematology and transplant MDTs, presenting an excellent opportunity for the appointee to contribute to the region’s approach to myeloid malignancies. The appointee will also have opportunities to directly contribute to the quality and strategy of BCCTT which successfully received JACIE reaccreditation in March 2024.
Inpatient Services
BCCTT is classified as a BCSH level 4 and CAR-T facility and maintains JACIE accreditation as a clinical and collection facility. This classification ensures that the centre meets the highest standards for delivering complex cellular therapies and transplantation services.
Outpatient Services
The Centre for Clinical Haematology (CCH) is the day case, apheresis/ECP, outpatient facility at QEH, refurbished in 2018. CCH co-locates clinical and research staff from the NHS and University of Birmingham. The IMPACT and TAP national trials programme is based in CCH, offering opportunities for involvement in cutting-edge clinical research.

Essential Qualifications
- GMC Registration with licence to practice

Essential Experience

Key Skills Required
Candidates should demonstrate excellent communication and relationship skills, including good interpersonal skills with patients, relatives and members of the clinical team. They should be able to gain confidence and trust, make positive contributions to MDTs, and communicate effectively in both written and verbal formats with patients and their families.
Analytical and Judgmental Skills
The ideal candidate will have broad experience and understanding of haematology, including specialist non-malignant and general haematology sub-specialty experience. They should demonstrate the ability to cope with pressure, respond to change effectively, and be conscientious and hardworking in their approach to clinical practice.
