Location
The position is based at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton, Somerset. You will be expected to participate in providing clinical cover at Yeovil District Hospital and offer services to General Practitioners, Somerset Foundation Trust Community Hospitals, and the independent sector treatment center Practice Plus Group Hospital at Shepton Mallet.
Salary and Benefits
The salary range is £109,725 to £145,478 per year, based on 10 programmed activities (PA) per week, with an additional 3% for on-call duties. We offer excellent benefits including flexible working options, NHS pension scheme, generous annual leave allowance, and career development opportunities.
Job Responsibilities
You will be responsible for providing a comprehensive clinical medical microbiology service, including advice on specimens, specimen analysis, validation and interpretation of results, regular ward visits, attendance at multidisciplinary team meetings, antimicrobial prescribing advice, and participation in infection prevention and control functions.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants must hold Full and Specialist registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) or be eligible for registration within six months of interview. UK-trained applicants must have a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), while non-UK trained applicants will need to provide evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT.
Essential Qualifications
- Full and specialist registration with the GMC (or eligibility within six months)
- FRCPath or equivalent qualification
- Evidence of continuing medical education
- Completed medical microbiology training recognized by the Royal College of Pathologists
Desirable Qualifications
- Experience in developing and implementing antimicrobial guidelines
- Experience in clinical risk management
- Interest and experience in OPAT (Outpatient Parenteral Antibiotic Therapy)
