Valhalla, New York, Job Summary : This position will provide direct services for neonates through adolescents. A comprehensive music therapy assessment and individualized treatment interventions will be provided in accordance with medical orders. Music therapy will be provided in groups and bedside to accomplish the restoration, maintenance and improvement of mental and physical health. Music therapy objectives are specific and relevant to each patient’s diagnosis, course of treatment, and discharge timeline. Responsibilities : Adheres to the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice set forth by the American Music Therapy Association. Consistently follows infection control guidelines to prevent cross contamination in the music studio, at bedside and during group activities. Assess individual patients’ development, emotional wellbeing, communication abilities, cognitive skills and other strengths and needs, determines treatment plan and patient goals. Provides music therapy services in individual and group settings to restore, maintain or improve patients and family’s social, emotional, physical and cognitive function. Develops and modifies music therapy interventions to meet changing needs and adapt to the developmental age, chronological age, physical limitations or disabilities and cognitive function. Develops and sustains therapeutic relationships with patients, parents and families from a variety of cultural, social, economic and religious backgrounds. Creates a safe environment in which children and families can feel comfortable with creative expression and communication. Participate in interdisciplinary treatment planning, ongoing evaluation and follow up Provides individual and group Music Therapy treatment services in accordance with the guidelines of the American Music Therapy Association. Maintains appropriate documentation including individual assessments, session notes, and treatment plans and the patient’s and family’s response to treatment in accordance with individual goals per department policy. Maintains accurate music therapy session statistics. Provides support regarding bereavement and/or legacy building. Collaborates with interdisciplinary team in pain management and palliative care. Provides ongoing management, training, supervision and evaluation of music therapy interns. Attending meetings and participating on committees to provide professional opinions. Participates in ongoing professional development Qualifications/Requirements Experience: new graduate’s welcome. Education: Bachelor’s degree in music therapy or equivalent as required for eligibility for certification by the American Music Therapy Association. Licenses / Certifications: Eligible for Board Certification as a Music Therapist; Creative Arts Therapy License within 6 – 9 months of employment, preferred.
