Job Responsibilities
As a Truck Driver with Cox Contractors Ltd, you will be responsible for operating straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials safely and efficiently. You will perform pre-trip, en route, and post-trip inspections to ensure all aspects of the vehicle are in proper working condition.
Vehicle Maintenance and Inspection
You will oversee the condition of your vehicle, inspecting tires, lights, brakes, cold storage and other equipment regularly. The position requires performing brake adjustments, emergency roadside repairs, and preventive maintenance as needed. You will also calculate the cost of truck repairs and new parts when required.
Route Planning and Navigation
Using computer equipment, GPS systems, and other navigation devices, you will plan or adjust routes based on changing conditions. Your expertise will help minimize fuel consumption and carbon emissions while ensuring timely delivery of goods. You will operate GPS equipment and trip recorders to maintain accurate records of your operations.
Cargo Handling and Security
Your responsibilities include loading and unloading goods, as well as tarping to ensure the safety and security of cargo at all times. You will record detailed cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled, and fuel consumption for each trip, maintaining accurate documentation for our records.
Customer Service and Communication
Professionalism in customer service is essential for this role. You will provide excellent service to clients while arranging travel, related itineraries, and making reservations as needed. Additionally, you will receive and relay information to central dispatch, ensuring seamless communication throughout the transportation process.
Requirements and Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must possess several key certificates and demonstrate experience in truck driving operations. Our requirements ensure that all drivers meet the high safety standards we maintain at Cox Contractors Ltd.
Required Certifications
You must hold a Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) clearance certificate, Air Brake (Z) endorsement, and a valid First Aid certificate. These credentials demonstrate your commitment to safety and compliance with industry standards and regulations.
Experience Requirements
Our ideal candidate has experience with accident or incident reporting, bill of lading documentation, driver logbook maintenance, and inspection reports (pre-trip, en-route, post-trip). You should also have experience with maintenance and repair reports, trip reports, and operating trip recorders on-board computers.
Driving Experience
We seek candidates with experience across various types of trucking operations, including local, long-haul, national, provincial/territorial, regional, and short-haul routes. Experience with lighter, special purpose trucks is also valuable for this position.
Working Schedule
