Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Optical Technician to join our team on a permanent, full-time basis. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting ophthalmologists, maintaining accurate prescription records, operating specialized optical equipment, and ensuring the smooth operation of our eye care facility.
Key Responsibilities
As an Optical Technician at Prairie Eye Care, your primary duties will include administering eye drops, ointments, and medications as directed by our ophthalmologists. You will be responsible for maintaining accurate prescription records and ensuring all patient information is properly documented.
You will operate various ophthalmic testing and measuring instruments, record test results accurately, and document medications administered by our ophthalmologists. Maintaining the cleanliness and proper functioning of all equipment is also a critical part of your role.
The position requires you to prepare and maintain equipment and supplies, process insurance claims including health insurance and workers’ compensation, and manage inventory of optical equipment and supplies. You will perform general clerical duties, process files and paperwork, and help maintain an organized office environment.
Scheduling and confirming patient appointments will be part of your daily responsibilities, along with taking patients’ general medical and ophthalmic histories. You’ll also manage routine office functions including reception, telephone handling, and appointment booking systems.
Organizing and maintaining inventory levels, supervising or managing activities of other opticians or student opticians when needed, and analyzing clients’ eyeglasses or contact lenses by measuring eye curvature, pupillary distance, and bridge width using optical measuring devices will be part of your technical responsibilities.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Candidates for this position should have experience with MS Excel, MS Office, and MS Word. Proficiency in optical and ophthalmology procedures and terminology is essential. While formal education requirements are not specified, hands-on experience in optical technology is highly valued.
Work Schedule and Location
This is a full-time, permanent position working 36.5 to 40 hours per week. The schedule includes morning, day, evening, and weekend shifts with overtime availability as needed. The work location is on-site at our Winnipeg facility, located at R2G 1P3.
Compensation and Benefits
