The Yoruba Language Teacher will be responsible for teaching Yoruba language and literature to students across junior and senior secondary levels (JSS1–SSS3). The teacher will deliver lessons in line with the Nigerian/Lagos State curriculum and WAEC/NECO requirements. The role requires fostering fluency, cultural appreciation, and strong exam preparation skills.
Key Responsibilities
Curriculum Delivery
Plan, prepare, and deliver Yoruba language lessons in accordance with Lagos State curriculum and WAEC/NECO standards.
Teach grammar, vocabulary, comprehension, oral Yoruba, literature, and essay writing.
Incorporate Yoruba culture, proverbs, and traditions into lessons while aligning with Islamic values.
Use diverse teaching methods (storytelling, role play, debates, reading sessions) to make learning engaging.
Assessment & Examination Preparation
Prepare students for internal assessments, WAEC, and NECO Yoruba examinations.
Design tests, assignments, and oral evaluations to monitor student progress.
Provide constructive feedback and support to help students achieve academic excellence.
Classroom & Resource Management
Develop lesson notes, teaching aids, and resource materials to enhance learning.
Maintain discipline and respect in the classroom in line with school and Islamic principles.
Organize Yoruba-related extracurricular activities such as cultural days, debates, and drama presentations.
Collaboration & School Culture
Work with colleagues to integrate Yoruba language into cross-curricular projects.
Support the school’s mission as a Muslim institution by modelling discipline, respect, and Islamic values.
Participate in school assemblies, extracurricular activities, and cultural programs.
Qualifications & Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Yoruba Language, Linguistics, Education, or related field.
Teaching qualification (TRCN certification preferred).
Strong knowledge of Lagos State secondary school curriculum and WAEC/NECO Yoruba requirements.
Experience teaching Yoruba language at secondary school level (JSS–SSS).
Ability to integrate Islamic values into teaching practices.
Excellent communication, classroom management, and interpersonal skills.
