Mental Health Support Worker at Synapse Services
Synapse Services is a privately owned and managed Center for Psychological Medicine with the head office in the heart of Nigeria. We provide first-class psychological and psychiatric care as well as treatment of addictions, with a range of therapeutic programs suited to individual needs. Our purpose is to make a timely and long-lasting difference in the lives of individuals and families we support. Our treatment programs have mainly been developed by clinicians working in America, the United Kingdom and Nigeria. We currently treat over 45 conditions across all our treatment sites. We also have International professionals who work with locally based clinicians for specialised assessments in areas where we struggle to find expertise in the local community or country.
Job Description
The roles and responsibilities of this include but are not limited to:
Support the nurses on duty and other clinicians while they carry out their duties
Assists in the provision of safe and empathetic personal care to people who experience mental illness, and who use mental health services, under the guidance of a qualified nurse
Receive and implement instructions from the nurses in charge of the wards at all times.
Welcome patients and facilitate a friendly environment to enable them to acclimatize to their new environment
Ensure the safety of patients and their living environment at all times; ensure patients are never left unattended in the facility or while on external activities
Physical care of patients: assist when circumstances require, maintaining personal hygiene – bathing, dressing, feeding, making beds, arranging personal effects, etc.
Interact with and support patients during therapeutic activities and recreation.
Assist in de-escalating and/or restraining aggressive/violent patients when required.
Supervise the scheduled regular cleaning of patients’ rooms and shared areas during all shifts.
Complete all observation charts and handover checklists promptly and conscientiously, with adequate attention to detail.
Ensure that electrical appliances e.g. bulbs, air conditioners, heaters, etc. are switched off when not in use.
Promptly report damages, and supervise repairs and maintenance activities in the facility.
Perform any other duties as assigned by the Nurse or clinicians
