We are seeking a skilled and hands-on Computer Hardware Engineer to join our team and provide technical expertise across the sale, configuration, installation, testing, maintenance and repair of computer hardware and related IT equipment.
The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that computers and other hardware products meet required specifications and are fully functional before delivery to customers. The role will also involve diagnosing hardware problems, carrying out repairs and upgrades, supporting customers with technical issues, and providing technical guidance to the sales team.
The ideal candidate should have strong practical knowledge of PC hardware, laptops, desktops, servers, networking equipment and computer peripherals, as well as excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Key Responsibilities
Hardware Diagnostics & Troubleshooting
Diagnose and troubleshoot hardware faults in desktop computers, laptops, workstations and servers.
Identify problems relating to:
Motherboards
CPUs/processors
RAM
SSDs and HDDs
Graphics cards
Power supply units
Cooling systems
Displays and monitors
Batteries and charging systems
Ports and connectivity components
Perform hardware testing to identify defective or failing components.
Carry out preventive maintenance and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
Troubleshoot hardware-related operating system and driver issues.
Hardware Installation & Configuration
Assemble and configure desktop computers and custom-built PCs.
Install and replace computer components including RAM, SSDs, HDDs, GPUs, PSUs and cooling systems.
Configure computers according to customer specifications.
Install and configure operating systems, device drivers and required hardware utilities.
Configure BIOS/UEFI settings where required.
Perform system testing and benchmarking before delivery.
Ensure that assembled systems meet agreed specifications and performance requirements.
Repairs & Maintenance
Carry out repairs and component replacements on computers and other IT hardware.
Perform laptop and desktop upgrades.
Conduct routine preventive maintenance on company and customer equipment.
Maintain proper records of repairs, faults, replacement parts and completed jobs.
Escalate complex or specialised repairs when necessary.
Ensure that all repairs are carried out safely and according to manufacturer specifications.
Technical Support
Provide technical support to customers before and after purchase.
Assist customers in diagnosing hardware-related problems.
Recommend appropriate hardware solutions based on customers' requirements and budgets.
Provide technical guidance on upgrades, replacements and system configurations.
Support customers remotely or on-site where required.
Explain technical issues and solutions in a clear and customer-friendly manner.
Pre-Sales Technical Support
Work closely with the sales team to:
Recommend appropriate computers and hardware based on customer requirements.
Compare technical specifications of different products.
Prepare technical configurations and quotations.
Advise customers on suitable processors, RAM, storage, graphics cards and other components.
Design configurations for business computers, workstations and specialised systems.
Ensure that products recommended by the sales team are technically suitable for the customer's intended application.
Required Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor's degree/HND in Computer Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology or a related discipline.
1–5 years of practical experience in computer hardware engineering, technical support, computer repairs or a related field.
Strong hands-on experience diagnosing and repairing desktop and laptop computers.
Experience assembling and configuring desktop PCs.
Good understanding of computer hardware architecture and component compatibility.
Practical knowledge of Windows operating systems and hardware drivers.
Experience installing and configuring computer components and peripherals.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving ability.
