About the Position
We are seeking a full-time substantive Consultant Psychiatrist to join our innovative Living Well Model in Oldham. This community-based position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to service development while providing expert mental health care to adults with severe and enduring mental health problems.
Main Duties
The Living Well psychiatrist will provide expert advice to General Practitioners for patients not currently accessing secondary care mental health services. Responsibilities include advising on medication, signposting to other services and specialties, providing clinical management and diagnostic advice. The service operates Monday to Friday.

The position includes low frequency on-call duties (1 in 31) with full second tier support and a day off following on-call shifts.
Location and Working Environment
Based at the Cherrywood Outpatients Clinic, Royal Oldham Hospital, you will work within an Inpatient-Outpatient model (New Ways of Working). The Oldham service is staffed by 6 full-time Consultants in Adult Psychiatry, with each Community Consultant allocated a Junior Doctor for support.
Person Specification – Essential Requirements
Applicants must possess an MB BS or equivalent medical qualification and be fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practice at the time of appointment. You must be included on the GMC Specialist Register or be within six months of receiving your CCT in General Adult Psychiatry.
Clinical Skills Required
The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent knowledge in psychiatry using a bio-psycho-social perspective, strong oral and written communication skills in English, and the ability to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty. You must be able to make evidence-based decisions and fulfill duties under the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act.
Academic Requirements
Candidates should be able to deliver undergraduate or postgraduate teaching, participate in continuous professional development, engage in research or service evaluation, use and appraise clinical evidence, and participate in clinical audits.
Desirable Qualifications
Additional qualifications in medical education, clinical research, or management are desirable, along with MRCPsych or equivalent approval from the Royal College of Psychiatrists. Experience in a wide range of specialist and sub-specialist areas within NHS or comparable services is also advantageous.
Sponsorship Process
Our HR team will assist with the sponsorship process for successful international candidates. From April 2017, skilled worker applicants must present criminal record certificates from each country where they have resided continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years.

Professional Registration
Applicants must have current UK professional registration and be able to achieve approved clinician status and S12 approval within three months of appointment. Those not already meeting these requirements should outline their plans to achieve them.
