Kent and Medway Mental Health NHS Trust is seeking a passionate and experienced Consultant Psychiatrist to join our vibrant community mental health team in Deal. Location and Working Environment
The position is based at Deal Mental Health Centre, located at Bowling Green Lane, Deal, CT14 9UF. This community-based post offers the opportunity to work flexibly and collaboratively with a team of dedicated professionals. Role Responsibilities
As a Consultant Psychiatrist, you will provide clinical leadership within the South Kent Coastal Community Mental Health Team alongside two other Consultant colleagues. Your key responsibilities will include providing medical input as required to patients under the care of the Community Mental Health Team, actively strengthening relationships with external agencies including the local CCG, and taking an active leadership role in screening referrals as well as assessing new referrals jointly with other team members.
Person Specification – Training and Qualifications
Essential qualifications for this position include MB BS or equivalent medical qualification, full registration with the GMC with a licence to practise, and being on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months of completing CCT in Adult psychiatry. You must also have Approved Clinician status or be able to achieve this within 3 months of appointment, and be approved under S12 or able to achieve this within 3 months of appointment.
Person Specification – Desirable Qualifications
While not essential, desirable qualifications include a qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management, MRCPsych, additional clinical qualifications, and being in good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice. These qualifications will strengthen your application and demonstrate your commitment to professional development in the field of psychiatry.
Clinical Skills and Experience
Essential clinical skills include excellent knowledge in your specialty, excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge, and excellent oral and written communication skills in English. You must be able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty, make decisions based on evidence and experience including the contribution of others, and be able to meet duties under MHA and MCA.
Transport Requirements
Essential transport requirements include holding and using a valid UK driving license or providing evidence of a proposed alternative. This requirement ensures that you can effectively travel between different clinical sites and community locations as part of your role within the community mental health team.
Academic Skills and Lifelong Learning
The role requires the ability to deliver undergraduate or postgraduate teaching and training, work in and lead teams, and demonstrate commitment to shared leadership and collaborative working to deliver improvement. You should have participated in continuous professional development, research or service evaluation, be able to use and appraise clinical evidence, and have actively participated in clinical audit and quality improvement programmes.
