About the Position
We are seeking a Neurophysiology Consultant to join our department at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. This is a substantive, permanent, full-time position offering an annual salary between £109,725 to £145,478 per annum. The role involves providing diagnostic clinical neurophysiology services including EMG, EEG, video-telemetry, evoked potentials, and epilepsy evaluations for both adult and pediatric patients.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will contribute to running the general diagnostic clinical neurophysiological requirements of the department. You will be able to express a subspecialty interest in areas such as NCS/EMG, EEG, video-telemetry, or sleep work. Your duties will include participating in the urgent adult and pediatric EEG reporting rota, performing or supervising reporting of EEG and video-telemetry studies, and conducting EMG or other specialty clinics.
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
- Primary medical degree
- MRCP or equivalent
- Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCT) in Clinical Neurophysiology OR registration on GMC Specialist Register in Clinical Neurophysiology and/or Neurology
Desirable Qualifications
- Higher Medical Degree (PhD, MD or equivalent)
- Subspecialty interest in Pediatric clinical neurophysiology
- Specialist accreditation in epilepsy or sleep
Essential Skills and Experience
- Effective administrative and time management skills with training in clinical management
- Knowledge of the organization of the NHS
- Evidence of significant contribution to successful teamwork
- Computing skills including word processing and spreadsheet programs
- Demonstrable achievements in developing or integrating digital systems into clinical practice
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Essential Experience
- Experience across the range of core Clinical Neurophysiology investigations (EMG, EEG, EP, VT)
- Training in Clinical Neurophysiology to Consultant level or equivalent
- Evidence of ability to make decisions at consultant level and manage complex clinical problems
Desirable Experience
- Experience of consultant responsibilities in a tertiary neurosciences center
- Independent reporting of complex EEG studies (epilepsy +/- sleep disorders) in adults and children
