About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Band 7 Paediatric Neurology Clinical Nurse Specialist to join the team at The Royal London Hospital. This is a pivotal role within one of London’s busiest and most diverse paediatric services, where you will make a significant impact on the lives of children with complex neurological conditions.
The successful candidate will work closely with paediatric Neurology consultants and Neurology/Epilepsy clinical nurse specialists to deliver high-quality and compassionate care across both inpatient and outpatient pathways. This role is suited to a dynamic and empathetic individual with a passion for improving the experience and outcomes of patients with Neurology conditions including brain injury.
The CNS will play a central role in coordinating care, supporting families, and acting as a clinical advocate throughout the patient journey—from acute admission, diagnosis, through to rehabilitation and discharge planning. You will be part of a forward-thinking team dedicated to improving patient outcomes and driving innovation in Neurology care.
Key Responsibilities
You will act as a vital link between our patients, their families, and the medical team, providing expert clinical care, education, and emotional support to children with complex neurological conditions. The post holder will assist in the continued development of the paediatric neurology service and work in close conjunction with the consultant Paediatric Neurologists and the paediatric Neurology Clinical Nurse Specialist.
The post holder will work with the Senior CAG management team to develop the strategic plan for the Paediatric Neurology service, taking into account the continuous quality improvement programme, to ensure the delivery of an efficient and cost-effective service. You will ensure that the aims and objectives of the Paediatric Neurology service are delivered and implemented to continually improve the standard of care that children receive, including any National guidance.
The role includes providing advice and support and training to staff caring for this specialist group within Barts Health and acting as a resource for members of the MDT. You will also provide direct advice and support to children and their families, helping them navigate the complexities of neurological conditions and treatments.

Essential Qualifications and Experience
Essential Qualifications:
- Registered Sick Children’s Nurse or Registered RN (child)
- Relevant 1st degree or equivalent
- Mentorship course or equivalent
- Up to date registration with the NMC
Essential Experience:
You must have significant post-registration experience, ideally in a paediatric acute or neurology/neurorehabilitation setting. Additionally, you should have experience of being involved in clinical audit and evaluation, experience of providing teaching/education, and a thorough understanding of the complex physical, cognitive, emotional and social challenges associated with neurological conditions.

Essential Skills
You must possess exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to navigate complex and sensitive conversations with families and carers. The ability to communicate effectively with a range of people including staff, other professionals and parents/carers and young people is essential.
You should be able to recognise and address barriers to effective communication, present and discuss ideas clearly, demonstrate an enthusiastic, approachable and friendly manner, and be prepared to provide annual comprehensive reports and partake in peer reviews as required.
