About the Role
Croft Hall Surgery is going through significant changes that will drive service improvements and enhance patient experience while delivering new efficient and effective procedures. We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic GP to join our team as a Salaried GP for ideally 6-8 sessions per week, though we are flexible for the right candidate. This position offers the opportunity to make a real impact on our practice and develop innovative approaches to patient care.

Torquay, Devon is an innovative area, and our practice is actively involved in all local initiatives. We are a single urban site located beside the sea, serving a patient list of 8,200 and are an active part of the Torquay Primary Care Network (PCN). Our practice has been rated as Good by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), demonstrating our commitment to providing high-quality healthcare services to our community.
Our Team
We have an ever-growing multi-disciplinary team that includes experienced Advanced Nurse Practitioners (ANPs), alongside our PCN staff including Pharmacists, Wellbeing Team members, and Physician Associates. We place strong emphasis on staff wellbeing and maintain excellent communication across all teams. We structure our workload to support each other, ensuring a healthy work-life balance while maintaining high standards of patient care.
Main Duties
The post-holder will manage a caseload and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients. As a valued member of our team, you will be expected to set an example to others, assist in education and training initiatives, and play a full role in target achievement and service development within the practice.
Key Responsibilities
Practice as an independent prescriber working within scope of practice. Carry out face-to-face and telephone consultations with patients experiencing minor illnesses. Provide medication review services for patients in the practice and, when required, during domiciliary visits to local residential and care homes.
Clinical Services
Provide advice and support for patients with self-limiting conditions. Review medications for newly registered patients to ensure safety and appropriateness. Provide subject matter expertise on medication monitoring, implementing and embedding systems within the practice. Carry out targeted medication reviews for high-risk patients to optimize their treatment plans.
Prescribing Management
>To re-authorize medication for repeat prescribing within scope of practice. Identify patients suitable for repeat prescribing, liaising with relevant clinicians as required. Review and implement safe prescribing systems for vulnerable patients, improving compliance and safety. Support clinicians with the management of patients suffering from drug and alcohol dependencies.
Practice Development
>Actively signpost patients to the correct healthcare professional to ensure continuity of care. Assist with Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) targets to maintain practice standards. Administer influenza and travel vaccines as part of our preventative healthcare services. Act as the practice point of contact for all medicines-related matters, establishing positive working relationships with colleagues and external providers.
Person Specification
Essential Experience
GP Primary Care Experience is essential for this position. Candidates must demonstrate practical experience working in a general practice setting, managing diverse patient caseloads and providing comprehensive primary care services.
Desirable Experience
Experience of working within a deprivation area is desirable, as we serve a diverse patient population. Experience with EMIS Web clinical system would be advantageous, as well as familiarity with Docman document management system. These technical skills would help you adapt quickly to our practice systems.
Essential Qualifications
Qualified GP status is essential for this position. Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) is mandatory. Membership of a recognised defence union such as MPS or MDU is required. Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners (MRCGP) is essential. Candidates must currently be on a performers list and never have been removed from a performers list for a detrimental reason.
Desirable Qualifications
The Diploma of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (DRCOG) would be desirable for this role. Additional qualifications such as the Diploma in Family Planning (DFP) or Diploma in Child Health (DCH) would also be considered advantageous and could enhance your application.
