About the Role
The States of Guernsey are seeking compassionate and dedicated Support Workers to join their Adult Disability Residential Homes. This is an excellent opportunity for international healthcare professionals looking to relocate to the UK while making a meaningful difference in the lives of vulnerable adults with profound and multiple learning disabilities.
The position involves working within one of three residential homes: Chateau Reve, Shotley Villa, or Les Alouettes, where each person is valued as an individual with their own preferences, routines, and communication methods. Staff operate on a 24-hour shift system to provide consistent, compassionate support that reflects Guernsey’s Care Values.
As a Band 3 member of the team, you will work alongside colleagues and senior staff, taking on co-key worker responsibilities to ensure each person’s needs, goals, and wellbeing are at the centre of their care. This is a rewarding role that enables people to live meaningful, fulfilling lives through personalized assistance with daily activities.
Main Duties
Support workers enable people to live meaningful, fulfilling lives by offering personalized assistance with daily activities such as personal care, cooking, cleaning, shopping, and accessing the community. Using the Active Support model, staff focus on doing things with people, not for them, promoting choice, independence, and participation at every opportunity.
The role involves building trusting relationships, listening carefully, and adapting support to each individual’s communication style, sensory needs, and physical abilities. Staff uphold kindness and dignity in every interaction, maintain openness and fairness in their practice, and actively empower service users to make decisions about their own lives.
Additional responsibilities may be assigned by the manager, and staff are expected to hold a driving licence and be willing to drive service vehicles to support community involvement. This position requires punctuality, reliability, and the ability to work well within a team.
