About the Role
The successful candidate will work as a substantive Consultant Old Age Psychiatrist as part of a multidisciplinary team. This position primarily involves community-based work to support multidisciplinary teams in delivering assessment and management services to older adults with complex functional illnesses and memory difficulties. You will lead on developing and delivering clinical pathways for older adults with functional mental disorders in collaboration with the Lead Consultant Psychiatrist for Older Persons Mental Health.
Key Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include promoting multi-disciplinary and multi-agency working for the Functional illness pathway for older adults and in the Memory Service. You’ll support the development of integrated care pathways for older adults with mental health difficulties and provide statutory clinical reports as requested. The role requires applying evidence-based approaches to clinical practice and working with the lead consultant psychiatrist to provide clinical leadership to the multidisciplinary team.
Clinical Leadership
You will work with other clinical staff to achieve high standards of risk assessment and general psychiatric assessments for all patients presenting to the service. The role involves supporting the development of a seamless service that provides continuity of care which is patient-centered and respects social inclusion and cultural diversity. You’ll provide clinical support and supervision to multidisciplinary teams, including complex risk assessments.
Mental Health Act Duties
A key aspect of this role is undertaking Section 12 and Approved Clinician duties related to the Mental Health Act (1983), with reference to the current Code of Conduct of Practice. This requires specialized knowledge and experience in mental health legislation and ensures that patients receive appropriate legal protections while receiving care.
