Job Summary
University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust is seeking a Stroke Consultant to join their comprehensive stroke centre and expand their thrombectomy service to provide a 24/7 service to the South West Peninsula. The successful candidate will be part of a multi-disciplinary team and can choose between a full-time stroke job plan without general medicine commitments or a job plan shared with another department including neurology, care of the elderly, rehabilitation medicine and internal medicine. Preference will be given to candidates who are seeking to work solely in Stroke.

Location Details
The position is based at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth, which is a vibrant modern city with a historic reputation for adventure. Salary and Benefits
The position offers a competitive salary ranging from £109,725 to £145,478 per annum, based on the hospital medical and dental staff pay scheme. The grade for this position is Consultant. Working Pattern
This is a permanent, full-time position with flexible working options available. The role includes weekend working at no more than 1 in 7 frequency covering the hyperacute stroke unit. Applicants will contribute to a regional network to provide out of hours advice on thrombolysis and thrombectomy. Essential Qualifications
Applicants must have entry on the General Medical Council (GMC) Specialist register via one of the following: a) Certificate of Completion of training (CCT) in a medical specialty with proposed CCT date within 6 months of the interview, b) Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR), or c) European Community Rights. Additionally, candidates must have experience making independent stroke reperfusion decisions.
Desirable Qualifications
While not mandatory, completion of stroke specialist training and experience/interest in stroke rehabilitation would be advantageous for candidates applying for this position. Attendance at appropriate courses, fellowships or equivalent is also considered desirable. These additional qualifications would strengthen your application and demonstrate commitment to the specialty.
Essential Experience
Candidates must demonstrate experience in teaching resident doctors and possess a thorough understanding of NHS governance processes. Clinical management experience such as being a rota co-ordinator, trainee representative, or committee member is also essential. The ability and willingness to work the required hours, shifts, and on-call duties with reasonable adjustments for disability is mandatory.
Research and Clinical Audit
Applicants must provide evidence of a research interest and clinical audit experience. Desirable qualifications in this area include presentations at local/regional/national/international meetings, relevant audit projects, publications as first author in peer-reviewed journals, and experience recruiting patients to stroke clinical trials. The trust values candidates who contribute to the advancement of medical knowledge.
Management Skills
A thorough understanding of NHS governance processes and clinical management experience are essential requirements. The trust also seeks candidates with evidence of interest and ability in management, including attendance at appropriate courses or gaining qualifications in management.
