An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Occupational Therapist to join the Monmouthshire Assertive Outreach Team (AOT) on a part-time basis. Location and Team
The Monmouthshire Assertive Outreach Team provides an enhanced service for adults diagnosed with severe mental illness. In addition to mental health problems, service users are often affected by alcohol/drug misuse, homelessness, or have contact with the criminal justice system. The post is community-based, with successful applicants seeing individuals in their own homes. The team operates from Rholben Villa, Maindiff Court Hospital in Abergavenny, Wales.
Key Responsibilities
The Senior Occupational Therapist will work under the direction of the Professional Lead Occupational Therapist and supervise Occupational Therapy Support Workers. Key responsibilities include carrying out specialist occupational therapy assessments in home and community settings, conducting MOHO standardized assessments, and independently planning, implementing, evaluating, and reviewing treatment plans on both individual and group basis.
Therapeutic Interventions
You will be required to use occupational therapy assessments and interventions to inform the overall assessment and recovery plan of service users. The occupational focused ‘Discovery Through Activity’ programme is established across the service, and all occupational therapists have access to MOHO assessment tools. You will work within a multi-disciplinary team to provide assessment and recovery-focused support to service users.
Family and Carer Engagement
Actively engaging carers and families in the therapeutic process is a key aspect of this role. You will motivate and support them to take responsibility for decision-making and goal-setting, ensuring a holistic approach to service user care. This collaborative approach helps build sustainable support networks around individuals with complex needs.
Service Development
Post holders will work autonomously to manage and prioritize their own caseload while collaborating with others to modify and develop services in line with changing circumstances and needs. You will function effectively within a multi-disciplinary team, identifying and utilizing the unique skills of the occupational therapist to enhance service delivery.
Professional Relationships
Maintaining and actively developing close working relationships with colleagues across disciplines and agencies is essential. This includes voluntary, statutory, and private organizations that support service users. You will assess and manage risk, carry out written risk assessments, and undertake generic duties to enable the service to function effectively.

Essential Experience

Experience in assertive outreach or community mental health settings would be advantageous. Previous experience supervising staff or supporting practice placement students is also desirable.
Supervision and Education
