Job Summary
Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Consultant Psychiatrist in Community Old Age Psychiatry to join their team in Fenland. This is an excellent opportunity for qualified psychiatrists to work in a community-based setting providing assessment and psychiatric treatment for Older Adults across a largely rural area. The successful candidate will receive a salary ranging from £109,725 to £145,478 per annum plus a £40,000 Recruitment and Retention Premium.

Location

Salary and Benefits
The salary for this position ranges from £109,725 to £145,478 per annum, plus a £40,000 Recruitment and Retention Premium (T&Cs apply). This is a competitive compensation package reflecting the seniority and responsibilities of the role.
Contract and Working Pattern

Essential Qualifications
Applicants must have entry on the GMC Specialist Register, MRCPsych (or equivalent), S12/ AC approval, and a CCT in relevant specialty. Candidates with a CESR or appropriate experience will be considered equally and are encouraged to apply. The post holder must have a valid UK driving license and be willing and able to drive.
Desirable Qualifications
While not essential, the following qualifications are considered desirable: MD or PhD, Diploma in geriatric medicine, and Postgraduate qualification in medical education.
Essential Experience
Candidates must have experience of working in a community facing team and clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCT in Old Age Psychiatry.
Desirable Experience
Experience of research and service development is considered desirable for this position.
Job Responsibilities
The successful candidate will lead the multidisciplinary team in providing excellent psychiatric care, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment plans. The role involves leading weekly MDT meetings, ensuring prompt reviews of acutely unwell patients, and working closely with the CRHTT OP, community teams, and liaison services.
Clinical Duties
Clinical responsibilities include providing assessments for new patients, many of whom are referred for assessment of possible dementia, and maintaining accurate clinical records using the EPR system, SystmOne. The post holder will also provide cross cover for consultant colleagues for annual and study leave to maintain continuous service.
Leadership Responsibilities
The consultant will provide clinical leadership for the Older People’s Services at a time of considerable transition. The Trust will support involvement in regional and national groups subject to discussion and approval with the medical director and chief executive officer.
Teaching and Education
The role includes contributing to the psychiatry post-graduate teaching programme and the psychiatry teaching programme for undergraduate medical students. CPD time is incorporated into the job plan, and a study leave budget is available to support CPD activities externally.
Research Opportunities
The Trust is actively involved in clinical research and would encourage candidates to participate in research activities. Funding may become available for the right applicant to become involved in research, potentially acting as a principal investigator for clinical trials.
