Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced General Manager to join our dedicated team at Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. This role involves managing a defined set of high-quality services delivered by adult and older adult services, including Neighbourhood Mental Health Teams (NMHTs) across an agreed geographical locality within available resources. You will be responsible for leading multi-disciplinary and multi-agency services, working collaboratively with partner leads to ensure the safe and effective delivery of care.
Key Responsibilities
As General Manager, you will be accountable to the Operational Director for a defined set of services within the Division. Your primary responsibilities include ensuring the safe and effective delivery of services, meeting all activity targets through the management and deployment of health, social care and VCSE resources within a defined budget. You will work alongside partner leads to support the development and delivery of safe and effective services, providing senior leadership and support to a defined number of NMHTs.
Service Leadership
You will monitor, review, and improve systems and practices to deliver safe, high-quality patient care and effective patient flow internally and across the whole system, working with partner leads. The role requires promoting an environment in which staff are encouraged to review and improve performance, practice, and services to patients through training and development, audit, appraisal, and peer review. You will participate in the ongoing development of the division and work in partnership with lead clinicians, practitioners, and other key stakeholders to support a whole systems approach to care and treatment.
Strategic Development
The successful candidate will contribute to, and where appropriate lead on, the development, implementation, and monitoring of operational policies and key service and strategic developments. You will ensure recommendations from patient safety incidents (PSIIs), near misses, complaints, and other incidents are implemented, maximizing trust-wide and system-wide learning by identifying trends and agreeing actions across the system where appropriate. The role may also involve leading on designated projects as required.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential Qualifications: You must be educated to degree/diploma level with a relevant qualification or equivalent experience. Additionally, you should possess a clinical/postgraduate management qualification to masters level or equivalent experience and proven ability to perform at this level.
Essential Experience
Essential Experience: Extensive experience of and demonstrable achievement in managing health/social care services is required. You should have a proven track record in resource management, change management, efficiency savings, and financial recovery plans. Experience of modernizing services without additional resources is essential, along with experience of developing and maintaining effective partnerships with stakeholders in service redesign.
Leadership Skills
You must demonstrate experience in project management and imaginative planning, along with experience of managing diverse practitioner teams across multiple sites. A measurable track record in involving and motivating staff to improve performance is essential. The ideal candidate will have the ability to lead and inspire teams, drive service improvements, and maintain high standards of care in a challenging healthcare environment.
