The Role
As a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, you will join an existing team comprising 10 dedicated gynaecologists, 4 dedicated obstetricians, and 6 consultants who work in both specialties. The role involves providing both acute and routine obstetric and gynaecology services, including emergency services, on-call duties, and delivering specialist clinics. There is flexibility within the team to take on leadership roles in specialist areas and contribute to governance and education.
Key Responsibilities
Your main duties will include maintaining the highest clinical standards in obstetric patient care, sharing responsibility for the day-to-day management of the obstetric department, ensuring patient safety, and delivering clinical excellence. You will be expected to teach and train junior staff and medical students, participate in continuing medical education, engage in clinical governance and audit activities, and fulfill your weekly timetable including out-of-hours responsibilities.
Specialist Opportunities
The trust is particularly interested in candidates with specialist interests in urogynaecology, complex early pregnancy, and non-elective gynaecology. However, other specialist interests will be considered. Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
Applicants must hold full GMC Registration with a licence to practice, possess MRCOG or appropriate specialist registration, and have a relevant CCT or equivalent qualification. You must also be eligible for entry onto the GMC specialist register within six months of the date of assessment. These requirements ensure that all candidates meet the professional standards necessary for consultant-level practice in the UK.
Essential Experience
Candidates must have clinical training and experience in general obstetrics and gynaecology equivalent to that required for a UK CCST. You should demonstrate leadership skills, particularly in obstetrics, and be able to show excellence in general operative skills. Additionally, you must provide a statement regarding appropriate training and experience, including any specialist interests that you wish to develop in this role.
Desirable Qualifications
While not essential, having a higher degree or additional qualification would be advantageous. Experience as an advanced labour ward lead ATSM or additional experience/ATSM/SITM in urogynaecology would also be considered favourably.
