Role Purpose
This appointment specifically aims to increase the existing level of elective and trauma upper limb surgery within the department. The post will support the department’s vision to restore and expand elective capacity while contributing to the HGS upper limb elective and trauma service. Key Responsibilities
The appointed consultant will be based at University Hospital Birmingham Foundation Trust’s Heartlands, Good Hope, and Solihull Hospital sites. The role involves supporting the full range of general Trauma and Orthopaedic on-call work on a 1:16-week frequency, including adult and paediatric trauma, outside referrals, and in-house emergencies. As one of England’s busiest elective centres and a Major Trauma Centre, the department delivers services across multiple sites, requiring flexibility in work location.

Person Specification – Essential Qualifications
GMC Registration: Full registration with the General Medical Council is essential for this position.
CCT or equivalent: Completion of Certificate of Completion of Training or equivalent orthopaedic qualification.
ATLS or European Trauma Course: Current certification as either an ATLS provider/instructor or European Trauma Course provider/instructor.
Orthopaedic on-call experience: Demonstrated experience managing complex trauma in both adults and children through orthopaedic on-call services.
