About the Role
We have an outstanding opportunity for a skilled Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a specialist interest in Hand and Upper Limb surgery to join our team at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, based in Shropshire. This post will involve training in a specialist element as part of our succession plan.
As our Orthopaedic Surgeon, you will be performing general hand and upper limb spasticity surgery for the paediatric and adult population. Your responsibilities will include providing preoperative assessment, intraoperative care, and postoperative follow-up for patients.
You will ensure all treatments meet the highest standards of safety and clinical effectiveness while working collaboratively with multidisciplinary colleagues to develop and improve clinical pathways. The role also involves contributing to audit, research, and the ongoing development of the service.
Person Specification
Clinical Audit
Essential: Understanding of principles of audit and demonstration of recent leadership of audit, process and outcomes.
Desirable: Experience in audit specifically regarding Upper Limb surgery.
Experience/ Specialist Knowledge
Essential: Fully trained in the generality of Upper Limb surgery and able to develop a sub-speciality interest. All round Orthopaedic experience. Fellowship in area of special interest 12 months minimum post entry onto the specialist register.
Desirable: 12 Months + subspecialty fellowship training. Independent surgical practice in core Upper Limb procedures (as evidenced within log-book). Subspecialist interest in upper limb spasticity surgery and/or paediatric upper limb trauma surgery.
Registration / Qualification
Essential: Full GMC registration: registered with the GMC with licence to practice with no restrictions and currently practicing clinician. Entry on the GMC Specialist Register for T&O via CCT or CESR (CP) – proposed CCT/CESR (CP) date must be within 6 months of interview. CESR or European Community Rights.
Desirable: Higher degree e.g. MD Ph.D.
Teaching
Essential: Proven teaching skills and commitment to the training of junior doctors.
Desirable: Formal teaching qualification/Educational supervisor experience.
Academic Achievement, Research and Publication
Essential: Understanding of the principles and applications of clinical research. Recent Research publications and presentation of papers in Upper Limb surgery.
Desirable: Subspeciality publications in Upper Limb surgery with a specific focus in spasticity and paediatric upper limb.
