About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon to join our dedicated team at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This is an excellent opportunity for experienced surgeons looking to relocate to the UK and contribute to our high-quality breast care services. The position offers 7.5 Programmes of Activity (PAs) with potential for increase as departmental budget allows, reflecting our commitment to meeting the growing needs of our service.
As a Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon, you will work closely with imaging doctors and specialist radiographers to deliver one-stop 2WW diagnostic clinics, results clinics, and regular operating sessions. Our department operates jointly with screening services, sharing facilities and equipment with diagnostic colleagues. The role involves predominantly day surgery, with minimal ward patient contact, though occasional post-operative emergency attendance may be required.
Key Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities of this Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon position include ensuring the provision of first-class clinical services and providing effective leadership to all staff engaged in the specialty. You will be expected to sustain and develop teaching and research initiatives wherever appropriate, conducting all work in accordance with the Trust’s procedures and operating policies.
Clinical practice must be conducted in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of the Trust’s and Division’s service plans. Integral to the role is maintaining confidence in business plans and development strategies formulated for the specialty, the Surgical Division, and the Trust as a whole. You will also be expected to attend outlying hospitals as required, including our community hospital at Stroud General Hospital.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential qualifications include full GMC Registration and a license to practice, with entry on the GMC Specialist Register via CCT or CESR (with proposed date within 6 months of interview). You must also have European Community Rights and hold FRCS or an appropriate specialist qualification. A postgraduate degree is desirable for this position.
Knowledge
You will need comprehensive knowledge of contemporary NHS management issues and the political context within which healthcare operates. Essential knowledge areas include principles of audit with evidence of participation, experience of supervising junior medical staff, proven teaching ability, and publications in peer-reviewed journals. A proven track record in research and willingness to undertake further research is desirable, as is completion of a management course or programme.
Experience
Essential experience includes evidence of Breast Reconstructive Training and clinical training in general breast surgery equivalent to that required for a UK CCT. You must be able to perform flap surgery independently and train others, with recent experience and familiarity of UK hospital systems and practices (or equivalent). Experience in risk reducing surgery is desirable for this role.
Personal Attributes
You will need the ability to lead a team and form effective working relationships, communicating effectively with colleagues, patients, relatives, GPs, nurses, and other agencies. The post holder should provide a role model and inspire junior medical and nursing staff while working independently as part of the directorate. Self-motivation and the ability to organize own CME and CPD needs are essential, as is willingness to attend outlying hospitals and fulfil travelling requirements.
Salary and Benefits
This position offers a competitive salary ranging from £109,725 to £145,478 per annum, pro rata for part-time working. The salary is based on the Hospital Medical and Dental Staff pay scheme at Consultant grade. In addition to the salary, you will receive the standard NHS benefits package, including access to the NHS Pension Scheme, generous annual leave allowance, and opportunities for professional development.
Location and Working Pattern
The position is based at Cheltenham General Hospital, Sandford Road, Cheltenham, GL53 7AN, with operating sessions also taking place at Stroud General Hospital. This is a permanent, part-time position within our Breast Surgery department. The interview for this post will take place on 18th February 2026, with the closing date for applications being 8th February 2026.
